The question is, have you driven a 3V V10 with the 5R110 transmission????? It is amazing how well it will move an 25,000# trailer. On higher altitude towing I would definitely agree that the engines that are turbocharged will be a much better option.
Completely agree with this, and no cam phasers to fail either. Shame they're so hard to find.

They don't, though. Relatively uncommon for one to fail, even on high-mile trucks. Not that expensive either, you can buy a turbo for around $400 at your local dealer. Powerstrokes don't go through turbos nearly as often as people think, either.
The ecoboost has a higher chance at spark plug failure. The engineers thought they did a good job with the triton spark plugs but thought they could one better themselves on the ecoboost.

?
Those are 3V Triton plugs. I've heard of EB owners having to replace their plugs before 100,000 miles, but I can't recall of any of them breaking.
The 3V plug issue has largely resolved itself. The redesigned heads went into production in '08, and just about every engine in the affected date range prior to that has had the plugs replaced already. The one-piece replacements aren't susceptible to separation like the ones in your photo.

wait the 3v v10 doesn't have cam phasers? I have the 5.4 and have been having problems with them.. which is why I have kind of been leaning away from the v10 and looking 6.2

Weird, when I googled ecoboost spark plug failure that is what came up. I thought back when they came out a similar pic was making the rounds on the internet after some ecoboost failures.
After your comment and more looking I found the real ecoboost plugs.
However I see they are still trying to use 1950's tech taper seat plugs. What a shame. Taper seat plugs went out with cast iron heads.
I just got a call from NASA, they are bringing the space shuttle Endeavor out of retirement. They don't have time to wait on a Tundra(it took them all day to pull it a 1/4 mile) and they need something reliable, so the diesels out. They want me to pull it back to FL from CA with my 6.2.
Ecoboost spark plugs have to get replaced at 40-50K not the usual 100k, same goes for any turbo charged car, hell my avatar ate plugs i changed them every 10k but its also modified.

I forgot how entertaining this thread could be. Anyone want to compare a 3V V10 to maybe the Chevy 8.1L?
???? I'm not sure why you brought up the 8.1 but my 06 has nice mirrors and they work quite well thank you . Through a tune in the 5.9 and it would be a different story.

I agree with this, tapered steel spark plugs in aluminum isn't ideal.... Ford could've saved themselves a lot of problems long ago with a simple crush washer spark plug....
No I havent had a chance to drive a 3v v-10 would love too thou. What i have driven was a 2V 6.8 with 3.73 and yes the thing was a turd a gear change would of helped for sure but this is from what ive driven,
Have you driven an ecoboost while towing?
I believe I came off kind of snobbish with my previous post, sorry. I haven't driven a EB yet but have been privileged to be a passenger, impressive trucks for sure!

Going 1mph, going through a qt of oil every five miles, need to fill up every 10 miles, and replace the engine every 50 miles.
