Gas vs PSD
I've always been happy with my choices, both gas AND diesel.
Buuuuuutttt.........
People spend thousands to save nickels. Especially if they justify purchasing something on mpg. For example, a low mileage diesel owner. Sure they may need the truck to pull the monster trailer but to argue they got the diesel for better mpg is just laughable. Reason? Because the acquisition cost was much higher and the low miles don't make up that cost (especially now that gas is at the $2.00 mark +/-). There are those, I bet a bunch, who likely put 5,000 or less per year. Without a doubt it does get better mpg, I'm not arguing that at all and for the high mileage drivers the cost will likely recover itself in fuel savings. I'd rather they just say they enjoy the power of the diesel while towing and prefer it to gas. Cool, THAT makes sense! No need to justify the purchase to me. I just don't think those high mileage, in a short timeframe, types would switch to gas.

You couldn't pay me enough to buy a diesel. I drove diesel trucks back in my 20's doing deliveries. And then worked on them myself, doing maintenance, repairs, and even an entire engine replacement (more on that later).
Never again. I understand the allure. The power, especially when tuned, is incredible. The longevity (when the dice are rolled every time you start the darn thing) is better than gassers - for the most part.
However, you can't pay me enough to own a diesel. OK, you could, but I'd leave it parked and drive my V10 anyway

One truck I was driving sucked up what amounts to maybe a drop of water in a heavy downpour at highway speed. Cracked all four pistons and even two of the cylinder liners. While that can happen on a gasser (requiring more water to do the job, actually), the cost was ASTRONOMICAL. It put a big dent in the profits (or added to the losses more likely) of the business I was working for at the time.
I'm willing to forgo some of the "awesome torque" and the (especially these days) "high longevity" to not have to deal with all the things a diesel requires me to maintain. And the risk, when not under warranty, of an engine problem.
I deeply respect all of Ford's powerplants, including the diesels, but you won't see me buying one. Ever.
Doesn't matter if it makes monetary sense, doesn't matter that it can theoretically pull more, doesn't matter if I can tune it and make it go 0-60 in 5 seconds.
I feel the way I do for my reasons, everyone else feels the way they do for theirs.
Making fun of or denigrating others for their choice does nothing to further this forum. Everyone has their own needs and opinions and likes. I like my V10 :P
Gasser is enough, and my wife hates diesel stink. On the highway, if a diesel is near us, She makes me either pass them or let them get way ahead. My neighbor had a diesel and the winter warm - ups used to stink up my whole house until I called the cops. <br/>
