And that's being generous....you are going to need plugs, fuel and air filters etc....so the difference goes in the favor of the diesel that much more....I was even being nice on 135,000 miles that the gas would need ZERO maint. just change the oil....

OK if that makes you feel better using the 6.0 as your diesel engine of choice. History says that of all the Ford diesels, the 6.0 is the absolute worst engine for reliability of all engines Ford or otherwise. On the other hand, very few if any problems on the V-10 and very few on the 5.4. So I'll take my extra mileage anyday knowing I'm going to get from A to B without having to sit on the side of the road waiting for the tow to the nearest Ford dealer.

......cant you read...thats why I added 4500 dollars to fix the 6.0L plus the extra maint.

It doesnt make me feel any better math is math....I knew I wanted a super duty....but I did the math.....and the diesel came out in the end...

Dont get me wrong....the v10 is a fantastic motor. but its for people that want pulling power closer to a diesel that a 5.4L wont do with a cheaper price....it fits for alot of people and I get that. but I'm not putting down the v10 every post...I dont have to. The numbers dont lie, by all means go to the pump...every 3 days I'm sure the CEO of shell and bp will recommend a v10 also.

The maintenance costs are fair to incorporate - as are the repair costs if and when they happen. (I think I could find a reman V10 long block for the price of a set of injectors on my 7.3)

All honestly, I think financially its close to a wash at the end of the day. I am sure people will state that their specific situation, their engine is cheaper and/or works better, and if that helps you sleep better at night, great!

No, without a turbo, a diesel doesn't have much top end, the low end torque is still there...... take the old IDIs for example

And, BTW Bill, There is no way dollar for dollar a V10 will ever beat a 6.4L in a drag race. Never, ever.

Pappy, that tuned 6.4L will be ahead of you the moment the light turns green, and the longer you race, the worse he will beat you. Have you ever watched a boosted 6.4L launch?

Of course, with the initial $7600 for the diesel, I could spend that money on a super charger and gain another 100+ hp and then it would be an interesting race with your tuned 6.4.

You still couldn't keep up...... you would still be 100+ HP behind. As for the Torque, well, 700+ behind....

Tell Ford that. Their EcoBoost engine lineup is selling as fast as than they can build them.
And those engines run just fine on regular 87 octane gasoline.

Just because ford is selling alot of ECO boost engines, does not mean they will be around in 200,000 miles. They will make it out of warrenty.

It always amaze me when gasser owners blable about $40 more for oil change for diesel, but never mention that for those using the truck for 400-500k miles they have to buy second V10. That is not that cheap the last time I heard?

There is a virtual handful of people that keep a truck for 400-500K miles. Gas or diesel, the truck itself would be a complete write-off in terms of chassis maintenance.

For myself, I have finally rounded 40K miles, and that's on an 11-year-old truck. I use it as my commute vehicle now, which has already put 5K miles on it in 5 months. Given that it's totally paid off, the gas mileage is still better than buying a brand-new vehicle and paying the loan or lease payment.

So I'll happily keep my gasser

I guess that the fact that some guys like gassers and some guys like diesels, so Ford makes both to satisfy a larger customer base is not relevant? I don't understand why a V-10 owner has to justify his truck to a diesel guy, or a diesel guy has to justify his truck to a gasser. But that's just me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Carry on,,,,,,,,,,,

That's just what I'm going to do. I'm going to out pull you for alittle bit. On the start I don't need boost I need rpms. I don't need boost for rpm. Pappy I really wish we where close together I would school you. I haven't forgotten to mention 1 single penny that maintance cost. I've been told I was lieing about it. Imagion that.
Tgreen I agree w/ you. I've made the speed limit agruement and it just gets over looked. Beside that w/ me driving 55 I'm no contest lol.
Johnny, 1st I don't have anything against the eco boost. My wife had a loaner for 3 days last week. Her SD had a sesnor go bad. Being a v6 I was impressed. Being a turbo I wasn't impressed but I wasmt disapoointed either. Having had a few turboed ford gassers it was about par. Here in N. Al. Its the 6.2ls that is selling like crazy. You can get a eco boost larait CC 4x4 all day long for $33k. You have to sesrch or get on a list to get anything w/ a 6.2. So I guess its just an area thing.

dang! 40k on 11 years!!!

my truck would have turbo problems one after another on that......in that case gas is perfect....

I put about anywhere from 30-45k on my truck a year.... my gas ranger lasted 298k miles.
