No lie, no tall tales. ALSO - keeping the MAF clean, and the fuel filter changed helps tremendously.
Hey its not for me to judge. Kevin drives just like that. He accelarates at or below 2k. He drives speed limite but he does have 4:30 rears but that's not going to make that kind of difference.
I can only get 15 mpg out of my 5.4 in a f150 mt no matter what I do. Lol. Everybody ask me why I still drive my SD when I'm not pulling. Heck 3 mpg adds up. It won't pay me to park the diesel. I do try to drive my mustang but I'm so use to a truck I feel like I'm sitting on the ground.
True story, I drove my mustang to work this morning and going down the highway I look in rearview and see this the bottom side of this giant bumper. I drop down in 4th and get the heck outta the way. Pulling off the grill then the hood of a dodge pickup truck comes into view. I'm use to being near the top of the food chain not on the menu. Lmao.
I hand figure mine and I think that's the best way. That being said if you work your lie o meter it'll tell you the truth. What I found with it that if you do different driving it averages things out but it comes up wrong. Say you start out towing and useing more fuel when you lighting backup it still calculates at a heavy rate. If it by chance try to refigure the difference it just averages between the 2. I've found that resetting between driving styles and everyday when I start out its fairly close. It usually tells me .4-.7 mpg less than what I figure. Also ideling messes w/ its figuring also.
Funny, San Francisco area have been always famous for highest fuel prices in the country. Today I noticed lowest diesel at 4.29, the highest 4.49
Are you questioning his price quotes? All you have to do is search fuel prices in his area.
All he is saying is there's no benifit of a psd to him. He gets the milage a psd does and the price difference of the fuel and maintance and engine doesn't just cost him more to run.
Your not going to change the mind of a man that's happy w/ what he gots and it works for him.
17 is possible under certain rare conditions... the same as 22 is with a 7.3L....
There is no way a V10 will average 17, and there is know way a 7.3L will average 22.
I know I can average 18+ easily in my truck. Last week I got 15.2 mpg on my one tank of fuel, over 60% was towing an enclosed trailer that wieghed about 4k and I was not taking it easy. Do that with a V10
I bet you had no idea this thread would still be alive and well 2 years after you started it! It seems to get new people over the months while others drop out. I wonder who is still active in this thread that were here in the beginning? When I say beginning, I mean like from the first 10 pages or so.
I really had no idea what I was starting. Not sure if I should be proud or ashamed.

Look at his truck, I'm pretty sure it was lieing down...
if you included the rest of my quote, rather than remove a small piece to comment on, the context would be clear as to why i referred to the dodge v10. . .and it had nothing to do with a comparison of motor design. . .
that bein said, to answer your question about why the dodge v10 is junk, it gets awful mileage, is a slug, and is expensive to buy parts for. there were good reasons they stopped making them . . (no we are not talkin about viper motors here, obviously), 1)they were junk. 2) the "other option" for 3/4-1 ton trucks was a p-pump'd cummins (most reliable motor ever put into a pickup truck). there was no longer enough appeal for a v10 to continue production.
The parts are not any worse than the 360 and the fuel mileage is the same as the Triton V10 and better than the Chevy 8.1.
Slug? That was the hardest pulling engine put into any 1 ton truck from 94 until the 8.1 came along in 2001. You truck stock would get trashed by it empty or loaded.
you do know that the 5.9 put in the trucks is the exact design of its larger brothers . . . .oops guess ya didnt
Its a light duty version of the same motor. Its not the same.
Bill do you believe 22+ with a 7.3l? Did somebody w/ a 7.3l say they get 22+? I remember a couple 20s.not saying nobody did just asking.
I don't see why a 7.3 would not be able to get 22 under the right conditions.
Some were claiming as high as 27 a six months back or so.

Going by the meter I have seen as high as 24 with my 7.3 2wd X and as low as 12.5. The 12.5 I got was before I knew its ok to tow in OD. Many times pulling my 24'TT and boat I have gotten 14.5-14.6. Driving just the X and driving normal I get around 20-21mpg. All averages, not instant.
Than there is gas buddy. They report diesel for $4.15 in Lindenhurst, NY, 11757
I know just about every gas station in Lindenhurst. I LIVE in Lindenhurst.
Diesel here is consistently the same or HIGHER than 93 octane. 87 octane is at $4.19 here.
I just checked "gas buddy"... Guess what?
It lists a station selling diesel at $4.15. It's on the corner of two main streets, about 3 blocks away from my house.
I was just there this morning at 7:15AM, diesel is the same as 93 octane, and 93 octane was $4.39 cash Diesel was $4.39. I looked. That's the absolute lowest place in the town for diesel, and I'm not sure I would shop for diesel by looking for the lowest price (93 and diesel was $4.49 for credit)
Since I posted above, prices actually came down $.20 at that station on 93 octane and $.30 on diesel, since yesterday.
The same guy reported all four prices. They are correct for 93 octane ($4.39 cash), and 89 octane ($4.29 cash), but regular at $4.05 is incorrect. It was $4.19 at 7:15AM this morning.
The website shows those prices were updated "36 minutes ago", which is around 8:00AM.
It's very possible the prices came down on 87 that much in 45 minutes. But again, diesel was still the same price as 93 octane. No way is it $4.15 unless 93 octane is dropping that much today.
