My youngest has been asking to go "back" to Disney World...in May of 2009 while I was out in Anaheim on business for 2 weeks...I was able to bring them out for 10 days...so they did Disney LAND then...but one of these day we will have to try Fort Wilderness as you are yet another that have given it very high marks!
You won't be disappointed. We intend to go back but will probably bypass most of the Disney parks this time. The kids have more fun playing in water than doing anything else so that will probably be our focus.
The funniest thing to happen at Fort Wilderness concerned my Golden. I was walking him for his evening business and this armadillo goes waddling by. The dog spots it, does a double take, and then runs behind my legs. He looks back at the 'dillo and then looks at me with this "what the HELL is THAT" look on his face. Funny as hell. He'd never seen anything more exotic than a rabbit till that point.
If you plan a trip there something to keep in mind is that the closer your site is to all the key features of the park, ie pools, stores, restaurant, etc, the more it costs. Driving inside the park isn't all that convenient so the best way around is either golf cart or bikes. Bring your own though. One of Mickeys carts will run you about $65-$70 per day. Yeah! With over 700 sites, if you opt for the more economical remote sites, walking isn't much of an option.

It started as a simple drug store and has grown into a HUGE tourist trap...but if you are ever by there...you must stop just to say you've been there!...kinda cool actually to see just how large it is...plus get the kids some ice cream...
Ok, gotcha now. When I was a kid my dad took the family on a summer road trip out west. I remember a lot of those types of "attractions" that had road side billboards that seemed to go on forEVER. Worlds Largest Snake! Last Living Dinosaur! Hehe. My brother and I would swallow that crap hook, line, and sinker. Our dad would stop just to shut us up.

None necessary man. I joined the Corp for my reasons and honestly, protecting John Q Public and the American Way of Life really wasn't part of my thought process. I was 17 yrs old and not that forward thinking at the time.
You guys lack basic technical knowledge.
Diesels need electric vacuum pumps for clima control and hydraulic brake boosters because
THEY DON'T SUCK HARD ENOUGH

They don't suck as much as a V10 but they do blow.
The important thing to me in life is that my kids see this beautiful country...we have so much to offer here with our history and monuments and beautiful country side that I wanted to make sure they had that as a foundation for being a parent when it is time for them to take the lead with their children...
I pray they have the means financially to do what we are able to do...but to be honest...a tent in the trunk of a car works too...just not as comfy when you get there! ... but the important thing is to do SOMETHING.
And this thread...whether someone has a diesel or gasser or hybrid or electric or CNG or whatever...if they are actually pulling a home on wheels behind them...the point is that all these vehicles have gotten them to their destinations...whether someone pulls a given grade/hill at 5mph faster or used .0005% less fuel...is really irrelevant in the scheme of life...
Those that don't tow or haven't gotten out there with their families and simply want to sit behind the keyboard and type...well hopefully some of these photos and the talk of how beautiful our country is will motivate you to hitch up and go and see it for yourselves...
Those that can't because of a financial hardship or economic issues which are all around...I pray that those situations change rapidly for the better to allow you to partake in this for yours and your childrens or grandchildrens sake.
And those that simply want to continue to argue...well unfortunately human nature says there will always be some of those...as you can see there are more than a few of us that enjoy what we drive for the reasons we drive them and everyone has a DIFFERENT reason to drive what they do...and because it is different than yours doesn't make it less valuable or effective...it is simply different.
Those of us that are enjoying what we have and working it hard...know what the deal is...no arguing needed...I let my actions and my trucks actions speak volumes.
Peace,
Joe.
Since you will be traveling, why don't you meet up with some of the PSDs in here? I am in Spokane, though I don't have my 6.0 anymore, I do have a Duramax and would enjoy pulling your camper up a grade around here with ya.
This thread is like a dog chasing it's tail in doors. You should stop them before they bang their head on the furniture but they seem to be having fun.
