Oh, come on! It doesn't matter if you can move the load or not. That is an unsafe amount for any F250/F350 to pull. This little contest has gotten rather ridiculous don't you think?
I agree with that.
my truck is rated at 20,000 combined, 10,000 gross and that is plenty of weight for it.
Is he saying 40K payload or combined?
Combined. My setup had a 30k gvw trailer (3 10k axles), F350 was good for 12k so legal gross was 42k. Most 4 car haulers are setup for at least 33k.
I was not trying to get into a pissing contest about the most wieght one motor will tow. Being the original post was psd vs V10,I am just curious if anyone has put a V10 through that kind of workout.
I know there are a lot of psd's out there working like this, just haven't seen a V10 doing it.
18K is the most i have done,( I can not do more because my trailer has no brakes) 33K is the most I have heard from a V10 guy.
He had pics and posted them in the Excursion forum.
He said it pulled great, had no problem with hills.
How does a PS do with that kind of weight? how much gas does it take to hold 70 on flat ground and how much of a hill can you take before you lose speed?
I could top out most major passes around 45-50 mph, but I had 3.73's so it cost me a little in the hills. On the flat running 70 was a piece of cake. Set the cruise and go. Not saying it was the best setup, but it did the job just fine and made me a good living and actually wish I had kept it instead of upgrading to a medium duty truck.
what about the F350 is better than a medium truck?
why did you change if the F350 was doing it so well?
Operating cost! Everything on a medium duty truck cost about the same as a big truck. I changed to increase my gvw so I could get more loads. The more loads I could haul the easier it was to stay loaded, but I should have gone big or stayed where I was.
Today I am going to help a lady move and she has a 99 7.3 PSD crew cab 4X4 with a 30' trailer she got from a friend to help her move.
she has no idea how to drive it, so i am going to.
I will finely get to compare the V10 to the PSD!
one question. How do i use the glow plugs?
Are they the same as my old 6.9IDA?

Since your V10 can outpull any psd (or so you say) why don't you do her a favor and pull the 30' trailer with your rig?
I have been driving semis for the construction industry for the past 12 years, I cant remember ever seeing a gas big truck, or a gas dozer.....When it comes time to work hard and get the job done with minimal downtime, a diesel gets it done!
And, not to start a Chevy vs Ford argument, but my best friend and I argue the gas vs diesel all the time. his 03 8.1 Chevy 1 ton gets 9mpg on a good day and his oil changes are about $30 less than mine (both using syn) I average 18-20mpg, with diesel being about .20 -.30 cheaper a gallon than the 93 oct he uses.....I don't need a calculator to figure who's the smarter one.
