1) Okay, sure oil changes are more expensive, but you need one every 7,500 miles on a diesel, while 3,000 on the V10. So, 2 oil changes a year to 5, does not negate all the costs, but sure does help. I would call that immaterial. Add to it the fuel filter that needs to be changed once a year on the 6.0 and there is additional costs, but still immaterial. We are talking about $100 a year at the most.

2) yes, but I would get a warranty on either, and the V10 warrantly isn't much cheaper, if at all.

3) With the new winter blend diesels, you don't need additives anymore, though with the 6.0 some swear by them. So no gelling issues anymore unless it is like 20 below. But that is why there are this little $50 plug thingies, which you should plug in a gasser at 20 below also.

4) Yes there are some that are bad, but that is usually from deleted exhaust/CAT and a programmer. Stock, the 6.0 does not smell one bit, same for the 6.4. I have never been around a stock 7.3, just modified ones, and yes my buddy's basically killed a tree in my front yard from his smoke. haha

5) Ride in a 6.0, when pulling big load up a hill, it is still relatively quiet inside, while the V10 is at 4,000 rpms and busting its *****. My buddy's souped up 6.0s and 7.3 can pull hard at 2,400 RPMs, seems like it is barely working. My stock 6.0 is another matter, but still failry quiet.

6) and yes that is why I am in the process of buying a warranty, they messed up with the 6.0, but when fixed, it runs awesome and is fun to drive.
Eh, wrong again....my owner's manual says 7500 on oil changes.......try again.....

100 mph, I do not see why that is such a big deal.
I was running late, and I ran it up to that fairly fast but I have no idea how long it took.

I am a Polaris guy... No jap stuff here. Infact I broke a vertabrae in my back, on the 27th, otherwise I would be at the track today... Alot happens in a few hours. My son stopped, and I had to listen to him brag about his 7.3 now I came back and I had to turn back a page to find the responses LOL No wonder there are so many posts in this thread.

I told my son about this conversation, 6.0 better then a 7.3, he wants to chain up to a 6.0 He was bragging about the Duramax, or DuraTurd as he callsum at Yankhee lake truck night over here...

1. Who wouldn't want a cheaper price? I'm with ya.

2. Hmmmm.....wouldn't know. Never paid for repairs for my 6.0. Maybe you have something there. You can't really call scheduled maintenance "repairs" but just in case you're lumping those in there too, you're right. I spend a couple hundred bucks a year more than you on maintenance.

3. How could it get better at shorter trips? I do short trips all the time. Truck doesn't miss a beat. I even let it....gasp....sit 7 straight days in a parking lot a couple times a month. Back when I had to actually go to work everyday, I drove my truck 4 miles to work and back. It still started every time and ran until I voluntarily stopped it.

4. Come on! It was a long time ago when I left Long John Silvers in the cab for a week in the middle of the summer. The smell is nearly gone. You can't blame that on the engine! Other than that, I have no idea what you're talking about. When it's running, I'm usually inside the cab and last I checked, the exhaust doesn't port into there.

5. You're right. I sound like a school bus going down the road until it gets good and warmed up...which hardly ever happens due to my short trips. The only thing louder is a V10 going up a hill pulling a trailer at a bazillion rpms. The first few times, I thought it was a tricked out Honda Civic passing me but I got used to it. Now I just turn up the radio when I see it in the mirror.

6. Blame the EPA.

If I were to replace my F350 (currently scheduled for 2019), I'd consider a V10 if:

1. It could produce power at a lower rpm, say around 2,000. I'm not going to get into wear and tear issues at high rpm, I would just get nervous revving it that high. So I wouldn't. As a result, I'd be unable to take advantage of the impressive power.

2. I didn't have a 3% per 1,000 feet of power loss at elevation. I'd be looking at at least a 12% loss in town and a 27% loss going up a 7% grade to go campin'. If only there was some way to minimize that performance loss....

Yeah, the Dirtymax pulls a ton too. I was really looking for one when I ended up with the 6.0. But the Dirtymax has its issues, like its turbo takes forever to spool, whereas the 6.0, the turbo is righ there, almost to turbo lag.

And Polaris does not really put out a good sport quad that I like, the outtlaw is okay, but heavy compared to my raptor. And with me being a big boy, I need the power of the 700 as well, most of my riding is sand dunes, no track, but some trails.

But like I said, my experience, the 6.0 SOP is definitely better than the 7.3 and once the turbo on the 7.3 gets spooled, combined with the right program, it pulls hard. But the couple 6.0s I have been in that are programmed, pull harder than the 7.3. However, I have met a lot of people that say the 7.3 pulls harder than the 6.0, so whatever, their call! haha

And my 6.0 does not smoke even one little bit... My buddy did have a 7.3 with 2 programs stacked and dual smoke stacks on a flat bed than basically created a smoke cloud similar to the old video game spy hunter! That was awesome.

But back to debate, the only things the V10 has is maintenance and original cost. There is no debate on pulling!

You're gonna have to do better than that...there's already 50 some pages of debate right here!

As to the "high reving" V10 comments, lets just say that it can, but it doesn't have to. I pull a 36' 14K 5er, and I rarely see anything over 3000, perhaps 3500 on some hills. And that's pulling hills like Reeser's Summit on I81 in PA. And if I recall correctly, the V10 makes 80 percent of it's torque from something like 1500 rpm up. Never could find torque curves on the 3V V10, anybody got them? And finally, having compared the 7.3 with the V10 pulling the same trailer, well....I still prefer the V10. Does the same job, and cheaper. So all of you diehard diesel fans, enjoy your ride, but don't be talking less you have done the compare.

If government is the answer, it must have been a really stupid question.

There is a debate about the V10 pulling or outpulling a diesel 2001400EX, AND, can you name a car/truck that has a 3000 mile oil change schedule that's not a severe service schedule? Why would anyone that isn't using their truck for severe service change the oil in 3000 miles?

Uh, have you read through the last 50 pages, truthfully not much debate in here. haha A lot of and , with some and mixed in.

And what is the maximum elevation in PA, like 2,000 feet? Come on, I live at 2,000 feet in the Northwest and have a 15 mile 6% grade to pull. In WY, I pull a 7% grade for 8 miles. Then there are the small pulls like 4th of July pass, you know, 5 miles at 5% or whatever it is. So don't say you can pull your 5th wheel up at pass until you have! Come out west and we will show you why people own diesels. And what has barely been touched on is the elevation loss suffered by gas engines. One pass I drive a couple times a year hits 11,000 feet.

Now, I do agree, if I lived in Florida and only pulled in that state, maybe a V10 would work. But even then, I would rather have my 17 mpg bone stock when empty. Driving 460 miles on one tank with a short bed is sooo nice, can you do that on a 29 gallon tank with a V10?

Any more points to make? haha

Well I might be wrong there, every other gas engine I have seen always said 3,000 miles and I usually did mine in 4,000 or so. So if the V10 book says different, then my bad.

Yes...several......5 miles at 5% is nothing- I can show you some out here that are 9% for 3-1/2 miles. And I don't happen to have a short bed, so the 29 gallon comment is meaningless......you keep grasping at straws and you are finally gonna get a hold of the one that breaks the camel's back.
