I think this picture sums up what the V10 guys were saying nicely.
While the Diesel gets the advantage at first, notice how the V10 continues to gain speed while the Diesel has leveled off?
Actually, according to this graph the PSD produces peak power at a much earlier RPM than the gasser (which is true) but levels off and meets the same number as the gasser. I could see an argument if the PSD fell off drastically, but both achieve peak power numbers in the same range, just the diesel does it much sooner and holds. The gasser is going to be faster by theory because of the lighter weight, but for pure pulling the diesel still would be the better choice. Thing is that most will never max out their rig on a daily basis, regardless of which engine they have.
Just think of how far ahead the V10 would be if that was a 2 mile long hill.
Find me a 2 mile long hill at 15%... oh yeah, with a stop sign at the very beginning of the hill...
The only hills like that I have been on, you can't go 30 mph unloaded (because of turns, not weight), let alone with a trailer. And there is no stop sign at the bottom. LOL
Don't worry about that fool...All he does is talk crap...His wife probably owns the bigger truck, and he drives a Titan or something similar.
I'm not worried. This thread has pretty much gone to crap. I mean how much more can these gas owners post up to try to prove to us that gas engines are just as equal to diesel. They aren't but they don't get the hint. I'm really suprise this thread hasn't been closed yet. But I hope it doesn't cause I'm having too much fun.

And then you have the one who wishes he'd bought a V10 and defends it to the grave even though he owns a 6.4...what an idiot...
I agree, I'm on my way to unsub to this, it's gotten waaaay outta hand
It really has. What started out as a technical comparison has become a soap opera where people are resorting to name calling, inaccuracies, and all in all getting very personal. I understand people are very attached to what they themselves own, but we need to realize that each have their strong points and their weak points, and therefore no one engine or truck is good for everybody.

Well, If they both start at 65 side by side then the V10 will be even farther ahead than if they start at a stop sign.

Yea, there is nothing that annoys me more than kids that talks about " their " truck, " their " mustang, " their " fill in the blank and its really their Dads that they get to drive sometimes.

Agree...those snot-nosed high-schoolers are the worst.
What are you talking about no one in here is adding anything technical. I mean people are posting diagrams of two different setup in a truck. Match a psd and a v-10 in the same setup and then post a diagram. I mean you guys are comparing apples to oranges. So if other people are going to post BS so am I.
That is one thing that I have noticed. It is not really a good comparison to say that someone's modded V10 will smoke a PSD in pulling, towing, acceleration, etc., just as it is not a good comparison to say that a modded PSD will smoke a V10. It is like me saying that my VERY heavily modded Saleen will outrun a 350. I have a friend with a 2007 Roush Stage 3 Mustang (supercharged) and got smoked on the drag strip by a jacked up 350 diesel with mud tires. In order to be truly fair, the only comparison validated would have to be the same body vehicles, one stock PSD one stock V10, same transmissions, etc. All variables would have to be equal, and half way through the drivers would have to swap vehicles out, and neither could be biased toward either truck.

And in all of this ignorant bantering between 2 certain diesel owners and the rest of us, they have conveniently left out the part where you and I both tied onto loads that were similar, made video of the runs, and the times were very close-even with my truck having roughly a TON more weight behind it.
How can this be? Your 6.4L is supposed to have killed my truck in a real world comparison. And my truck doesn't even have a 4.30 gear in it.
JL

Uh, the v10 in that shootout was almost 5 seconds behind after 250 meters. That is a HUGE difference. And we don't know if the v10 was topped out. If so, then it would never make up that time. I don't care about the gearing (though there are some downsides to 4.30 gears) but make the psd an equivalent trim, and it would drop what, 1,000 pounds? think that would make any difference? LOL
Like I said, you can say you got the psd on initial cost, maintenance, reliability, but you can't say the v10 will outpull a psd, unless it actually happens and we all see it. LOL
And then you have the one who wishes he'd bought a V10 and defends it to the grave even though he owns a 6.4...what an idiot...
Just like jac, there are certain things being said that are personal attacks. Calling someone an "idiot" is one of them. If you re-read the guidelines, you'll find that is not allowed.
Again, the ONLY reason you and jac have not been infracted for it is because I'm on the gasser side of this argument.
If you'd like, I can get a Supermod or Admin in here to read everything and infract everyone he or she thinks deserves it.
Keep it up.

Wow, 5 seconds, towing near max weight? That's HUGE (not).
