They are both super protective and territorial. Nice to know since I work swingshift. They both get up several times a night and go in and out of the kids' rooms checking on them.
Very cool. I would love to get a Shepherd like that some day. My dog is a Chocolate Lab/Rottweiler mix. She's 8 years old and weights in at about 70#s or so. Great watch dog and she loves kids. Her name is Dallas.
Great dog man! Labs and Rottys are fantastic dogs and that's a great mix. I've also got a yellow lab that was the runt of her litter. She's still little and probably about 50 pounds soaking wet. She's 12 now but runs around like she's 2. My Saint Bernard died about a week ago and our other lab died before Christmas. All of ours are great with the kids too and when my kids are outside playing, the Shepherds right there. It's kind of funny to watch them. The female will lay right beside the kids and the male, even at only five months old, will run the fence line and constantly watch everything going on.
When I was a kid, about 5 or 6, we had a German Shephed named Damon. My mom would let me play in the yard but only if Damon was out there with me. If I went to leave the yard, he would push me down and then lay on me until Mom came out. He would also jump in my wagon when I went to play with it....
I have pics somewhere of him sitting in my wagon and me trying to pull it. I also have pics of him sitting on me....
Yep. I had Shepherds growing up as a kid. They were fantastic dogs and probably the most protective of those that I'd had. One of the females I had used to go out in the morning in the summer and run straight to the garden. She'd come out with at least one or two rabbits every day and she'd always bring them to me because she was so proud of herself. One day she chased my mom everywhere with a dead groundhog just trying to show off. Mom finally ran in the house but I was in tears and laughing my butt off. My kids haven't started bugging me too bad yet for another pup but if they do, I'm looking for a Rottweiler.
The parents of this young couple with a 3 year old and a 9 month old child were involved in this accident.
The father is a pilot in the Air Force.
The pilots parents are members of the church that I attend. I've served next to Mr. Coffey in many church functions.
I went over to thier house yesterday and they are flying down to Florida today.
This weekend, it's beer brats with peppers and onions.
Just started simmering some beer and the house is strating to smell good. First batch will get steamed in just a few minutes and then it's outside, to the grill...
Dan, sorry to hear about that family. Horrible. It seems only good, honest people die young.
Scott the brats look good. I think I'm going to BBQ some chicken for dinner tonight.
Didn't buy anything at the mall today. Couldn't find what I was lookin for.
Hope everyone else had a good day.

Our family dog when I was growing up was a German Shepherd / Rottweiler mix. Fantastic dog. Very protective, extremely intelligent. Her name was Lizzy. She was a great guard dog, even trapped a police officer in the back yard one time - he was chasing a perp and thought he'd take a shortcut through our yard. hahaha WRONG. She loved to chase squirrels - she hated them because they stole her food. She'd never kill them, just paralyze their back legs. I can't tell you how many squirrels I've shot with a pellet gun just to put them out of their misery. I'd come home from high school and just in time to see a poor squirrel draggin itself across the street.
She loved sugar daddy caramel pops, and whenever she was around another dog who was misbehaving, she'd set them straight. She was the best dog trainer I have ever seen.
Her as a puppy:
As an old lady:
Here is my dog today. This is Mattie:
She's very smart and quite the characer, but as you know, Bulldogges are considered "non-sporting companion dogs" and man does she fit that bill. lol.
My next door neighbor had the same thing happen to his Beagle. But, before he could catch him, he ran into the house and started rubbing and rolling on every piece of furniture, carpet, and then the bed. It's bad enough trying to get it off the dog, but in the house...
Haha ouch, that would suck! My dog is in her kennel for today and tomorrow, she was across the road, and I caught her. She must have that skunk over there in the water or something.
Great looking dogs by the way!
