( the guy is a *****, thats no question, most of the force doesnt like him, but thats not the issue, just an aside) well i understand that ya'll have to say stuff like that and assume people arent telling truth to try to trip 'em up in thier story and stuff, but I only got as far as as saying "well, what i saw as..." and he started callin me a liar and syain he wasnt gonna put up with my stuff..blah blah blah...well i got pissed and told him it was guys like him that give cops a bad name. (not you of course. I have deep respect for uniforms) and that i didnt wana talk to him and i walked off saying stuff like "you make me second guess whether or not I even wanna be a cop etc...etc...etc... Well he then told me that "cussin a cop out is a good way to get arrested real quick" to which I replied " sir, i didnt cuss you" and I went inside.
Truth is I actually was fairly respectful considering the situation and the attitude of the officer. I did not in fact use any swear words or make any derogatory remarks about donuts, bacon, and stuff like that.

So I guess what Im askin' is could I have actually been arrested for that?

Sorry that was so long winded.

Nope! I thought it was gonna start raining today and wash this pollen away but nothing at all. Supposed to rain a little tomorrow for sure and 50% chance on Saturday but nothing too bad as far as I heard.

To be honest with you, there are a lot of differences between FL and VA law so I'm not sure about FL. Up here, unless it is something disorderly that incites violence, etc., most of the time we just shrug it off. By law, in VA, cursing is a violation and it's a minor misdemeanor. Granted, I don't like being cursed, but at the same time, I'm really thick skinned and I just ignore it. Having said that, I have found over the years that if you treat the people you deal with the same way you'd like to be treated, you get a lot further. I don't curse at anyone I'm dealing with. When you start doing that, you quickly find yourself on a sinking ship. You get a lot less information than you would have otherwise.

It stinks that this guy treated you that way and as you have found out already, this isn't the "norm". People like that tend to give us a black eye we don't collectively deserve. To your point about him making you second guess wanting to be a cop. Don't let it deter you if it's something you really want to do. After all, you've found out from this experience that this isn't the way to treat people. It should make you more willing to become a cop just to try to right some of the wrongs like this.

For what it's worth, I've chewed some butts over things like this in my time. It wasn't any of my folks but officers from different shifts whose supervisor was off, leaving it in my lap to supervise the shift.

I guess my point is, regardless of whether or not what you did was illegal in your state, he didn't need to talk to you that way. Unless you're doing something to deliberately obstruct him, you're assaulting him, or have given him some other reason to arrest you, what you said without cursing would not be grounds for arresting you here in VA...I don't know about FL though.

Cool. I appreciate the response. From what i know the officer involved had some negative personal feelings about the involved parties.
But for the most part they are great bunch. Know 2 of em fairly well on a personal level. Our sherriff's Wife was killed a couple years ago in attempt on thier lives and I am proud of how the law enforcemnt communitty stood together. it was rumored for a while that a suspect was off in the woods and we had officers from evry surrounding county even off duty alabama officers, and FWC came to help in the search. It was quite moving. Anyway! Thanks a lot!

Anytime buddy. Also, one thing I forgot to mention. If he was mistreating you verbally or otherwise, you can file a complaint with his department. Chances are you are not the first person to have had this happen.
