You are correct...that's us. God I hate that stupid water tank. Would you believe when the town decided to paint that turd like that, they had the nerve to ask all of the employees to donate towards getting it done. Anyways, you are correct about the Cracker Barrel too. It's just off exit 73 on top of that hill. The town is about 14.4 square miles in area. We've got 19 motels just in the town and restaurants coming out our ears. They're supposed to be building another two motels and some more restaurants in the summer.
Any reasoning behind the balloon deal? I mean do yall have a lot of balloons and I just come thru at the wrong time of the year?! lol
Seems like if they wanted donations they shouldve had a vote of what to put on the tower...
We stayed at a hotel years ago there and we woke up with like 8 inches of snow on the ground. We followed 2 plows down 81 for miles and miles going like 45. Most agonizing trip ever!
Im actually getting out west toward ya in a few weeks. Goin to Smith Mtn Lake for a weekend for free. Its like 2 hours from ya but def closer than I am now!
Edit:
Im in Prince George...bout 30 miles south of Richmond, right where 85 and 95 merge together. Get on 81 go to 460 east and you will eventually get here! 460 splits the county in half basically.
Smith Mountain Lake is great. I'm not really sure what the motivation was behind the balloon thing. Every June, they have the Chautauqua Festival in town. It runs for nine days and they have all kinds of crap on the schedule from live entertainment to arts and crafts. They usually start the festival off with a hot air balloon launch from the community college on the opening Saturday. Years ago, they used to have some pretty big names in country music for the main show. In recent years, they've gone on the cheap for the entertainment. Usually, they book singers that most people assume have already died because it's been that long since they've heard them.
As for the crowds in attendance...Have you ever seen the movie Wrong Turn? It's kind of like a multi-generational gathering of former Jerry Springer Show guests. It's truly the best time of the year for us to take out all of our oldest unserved warrants and go hunting.
As for the donation thing, they decided they would ask the employees to donate and the town would cover the rest. They got about $25 from everyone total. They just got the estimate to restore and rejunevate and it came in at a whopping $178,000. I think they've given up on the idea of employee contributions though.
Dead country singers...lol...thats pretty bad. Ive got a buddy thats a deputy in the county over from me and he arrested his ex wifes cousin on an OLD warrant for bad checks. He saw the warrant somehow and knew exactly where to find him. It had to feel pretty good...lol
178K?! Wonder how much that is compared to a new and improved towers cost...

I go to VA Beach each year in April for our annual conference and travel 460 to get there. Rather go that way than interstate. Conference got cancelled this year though so maybe next year.
Yea, well you should know where they all merge...85, 85, and 460...thats basically us. 460 and and 85 are the same road for a few miles. Nothing really exciting to use as a landmark but we have the 55mph zone before you go all the way down to 35 in the speed trap known as Waverly, VA...
Night, Brent. Im heading to bed in about 10 minutes myself!
Been through there a few times. I wasn't driving though. Four of us go in the boss's vehicle and I'm holding down the back seat. Some of the roads around there are confusing as hell. Even my Garmin gives up on me.
(I know I impressed her parents), I tried being a gentleman as best as I could.
making a good impression with the parents is always a good idea. especially in a farming community where the father has many guns, and knows how to properly use all of them.
Good Morning all! I still have the remnants of a cold from my drive... it's getting a bit annoying! I'm getting the trailer unpacked though, and should have it completely empty by this coming weekend. I bought a handtruck from Sam's Club for $75 and man what a great purchase!!! LOL
Tonight I'm setting my alarm so I can get up & run with the pups. Today I'll probably be signing up for a membership at my old climbing gym. I'm not working so I might as well get back in to really good shape!
Ahhhh... so, let me throw this out to y'all and see what you think:
So I meet this girl, and we go out to her place. She has horses, and her best friend is there. The BF is brushing down her horse, a big Percheron. I mention that my ex had a black Percheron, and the BF says "she's black too".... but I'm looking at the horse and it's brown. Seriously. So I'm like "she looks brown to me. she's really black?" and all 3 girls are like "yes, she's black".... so I pull out my keys, because my remote for the truck alarm i KNOW is black. The horse is brown.
Sooo... this makes for an odd moment, and then the evening is a bit strained for a bit.
Her position: Why did I have to be "confrontational" and not just accept it?
Mine: Why, when my eyes are telling me brown and someone says black, would I know check/verify for my own knowledge?
Oh yeah... MUCH later, she tells me that horses color can get bleached out by the sun, and a black horse can look brown..... OK. Why not bring that little fact to light earlier??
So, was I an *** or would you have checked the color too? Or would you have just kept to yourself about it completely? Just curious...

Brendan, run away from those three girls! the fuggin horse was brown, you saw it, and you verified it. Those girls tried to change your mind in three part harmony.
