Aaaahhh I'm sort of fidgeting all over. I think I quite literally can't wait. Perhaps a bit selfish, considering it is Jeremy's truck, afterall?
Nope!
Jeremy, sure hope you can video the rest of it from here - first crank, startup, getting kinks worked out, first drive, second drive, third drive, etc... I'm a sucker for that stuff and will lap up every second of it. It's been damn fun following this project, and absolutely awesome of you to have been documenting it so assiduously all along the way. Great record/resource, this thread should prove to be for others, says I.
I'm seriously jonesing to see this thing up and running.
Thanks for all the compliments. I'm quite pleased with how things are turning out.
Not running quite yet, but should be tomorrow. Got the radiator hoses on, coolant tank in place, and topped off with coolant. One battery is in place and new cables are made. Going to wait until tomorrow to try and fire it. Since I'm in the driveway, not in a shop, I don't have much light out there. I feel more comfortable with the first fire being in the daylight where I can see better. Jeff's coming by around lunch, so I can have a second set of eyes on it and looking over everything. The only thing I've really got left to do is fill the turbo with oil & tighten that supply line and put the 10 gallons of diesel I've got in cans into the tank. Oh, I also need to upload the shift file to the PCS controller.
I'll try to get a vid of the first fire, but I don't have a true video camera, just a video setting on my digital camera. It only takes short videos...like 30 seconds at a time. If I get it running, I'll get a vid of it sometime tomorrow though.

That is perfect for this format.
It's what I use as well.

Good grief you guys are acting like you'll have a coronary if Jeremy doesn't get this motor running ASAP.
Relax! Go sit on the toilet and read a magazine. I know that should easily take up an hour's worth of time.
I'm excited too, but, don't rush him. He doesn't want to overlook anything important.

I wouldn't be able to get off without falling over if I did that!!! My legs would go numb!! And I don't have a handy German tourist to blame it on either!!
I'll get some vids posted up soon enough, but have minor things to tend to first, before it gets dark. Startup went well. Cranked for about 15 seconds to fill the fuel rail, injector lines, and injectors. Next crank was about 5-10 seconds and it fired right up. That was a great sound. Got it up to 2000 RPM, Jeff secured the throttle in that position (with a screwdriver jammed in there somehow...LOL) and I started looking around.
First thing I noticed....holy shat, this turbo effin screams! Hopefully it comes through in the vids. There were no leaks that I could be found while running.
There were a couple minor issues. A small leak at one of the heater hoses showed up about 20 minutes after the truck was shut off, but a couple cranks on the hose clamp stopped that one. The stock temp gauge is not working, which I need to diagnose. Don't know if it's the sensor or in the wiring. I'll get it figured out though. The Autometer gauge does work, so I do have a temp reference.
One slightly bigger than minor, but not major issue. After the 20 minutes of 2000 RPM for cam break in, I revved it a couple times and the fan caught the wiring for the electronic fan lockup. I don't think it cut any of the wires, but slightly tore the sheath. The fan simply sucked in the wire. I'm going to secure the wire to the radiator with some stainless safety wire, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore. If it chews the wire again, I'm putting a thermal clutch on there and ditching the electronic clutch all together.
Once I get the fan wiring fixed, I'll come in for some lunch (I'm typing this as I sit in my truck ) and upload the vids for you all. Give me an hour or two. I know you guys want to see this, and I want to show this to you, but I'd also like to get the truck drivable today, so I need to take care of the minor issues first.
