The tech already knew what was in it. I've gone by the dealership a few times before to discuss some things with him about the Cummins engine. He just wanted to finally see what I had been talking about all this time. I've also put the Cummins emblem on the door, so it's pretty obvious what I've got in there, combined with the sound. I'll try to get some pics of the badging over the weekend and post them up.
Congrats Jeremy! I have a couple of friends that are wanting to do the conversion and i have told them to wait till you got done so they can use your saga as a reference guide
Damn, that badging is premature. Gotta have fun with it first.
I think I'll still have fun with it. I wanna show that thing off though. Around here, it will turn more heads with the badging on, I think.

That very cool. I've still got a couple things left to do, but I think they are pretty small items: get AC lines made and system charged, mount and hook up second battery, remove bulb from check engine light, diagnose why the stock coolant temp gauge isn't working, and head to BTS for the torque converter swap & trans freshening. I think the major hurdles are pretty much over though.
did the TPS reset fix your 2k issue? inquiring minds want to know.....and in case I have not said it,,, great job, looks awesome Jeremy. You have a future as a tool and die maker if you ever choose to go that route. Pride in Workmanship can be a difficult thing to find sometimes.
Jeremy, haven't been on here for a while so missed the grand starting a few days ago. Glad to hear that it went well and hope that the 2k problem isn't hiding too deep. Like others have said, you did a fabulous job on the conversion. It would be hard for a "professional" to do it any better. If you still need to do that roadtrip, the offer still stands for a meal if you come this way.
No luck with the 2K problem yet. Yesterday, the tech checked the TPS and it did show 100% throttle, so it was receiving the correct signal and did not need to be reset. I didn't hear from the tech today. I guess something came up and he didn't make it in. I'm pretty sure he'll call though, because he let me borrow the dealership's service manual for the '04 trucks. That's an expensive book, and I think he'll want it back.
I did get the Smarty ordered today though. Talking a little more with Lloyd at Mid Atlantic Diesel, he said that the 2K problem is something they've seen before on some other conversions. It's not common, but it's an issue that has been encountered before and the Smarty will for sure fix it. I'm hoping it will show up this week sometime.
I ran into a bit of an issue again tonight. The power steering hose blew again, but this time it was the other fitting, the one on the pump. It didn't make as big of a mess this time though, since the fitting was low. It was dark when it happened, so I didn't get it 100% cleaned up, but I did get the majority of it taken care of. I'll take the hose back to the hydraulic shop on Monday and have it fixed. He's got some different and better crimps now that he didn't have when I first had the hose made, which is what he used to fix the other end and it's holding fine.
Mark, I'll see how it goes. I'm not on a pressing time frame now to get trips in, so I don't know if I'll make it up north or not. I've been doing a bit of traveling for some work lately, and if that continues, that will definitely get some miles on the truck. I'll let you know if I head that way though.
Jeremy, I know the frustration with hydraulic hoses coming apart. I had quite a few 3/4" hoses made for a machine I built. First one blew, than another. I ended up taking them all off and having them re-crimped. That seemed to stop the breakage.
I'm sure that you are glad to be finding a solution to the rev limiter. At least someone has encountered it before and a fix exists.
The guy at the hydraulic shop was very apologetic about the hose bursting the first time and fixed it at no charge. He seemed to feel my pain.
Once this rev limiter thing is gone, the truck is going to be a lot more fun! I'll try to figure out how to get some in cab videos of the truck running after that too.
Kenny, I do two things. One, I am a sales rep for a lubrications company. Two, I am an auditor and consultant for ISO 9000.
Me knowing what was going on during this conversion came from knowledge I have and help from others. I've been working on cars and such since before I was a teenager (I'll be 29 this month), so I've got a lot of years under me turning wrenches. I'm a sponge when it comes to learning things, and always like to learn more and learn better ways to do something. I'm also somewhat of a perfectionist, and like to do things right, which helped a lot during the conversion. The resources I had for help, with Kai and Greg giving advice, who have both done conversions before, also went a long way in helping me on certain specific aspects of the conversion. Lloyd at Mid Atlantic Diesel provided me with some helpful insight on the engine specific modifications. Without the help of those guys, I wouldn't have known nearly as much ahead of time, so I have to give them a big thank you for their advice.
He talked alot with the two most intelligent conversion guys i know if, Greg (dockboy) and 94ttss (Kai zimmerman), both who are running some pretty stout HP out of their CP3 fueled 5.9's.
I got some new pics taken today of the engine installed as it is now. Still need to have the AC lines made and install the second battery. Thought you all might like to see how it looks now though, fully installed. They're in my Webshots gallery, starting at the picture below. Click on the pic.
