******* starts dialing phone to let Mrs. Tenn know that her husband is borrowing her Pants******
In my best aussie voice....... Here we observe the american male the week before hunting season. Notice the small beads of sweat on his brow as he endures the dancing show to appease his mate. For he knows that in the coming weeks she may pull the old " your going hunting again?!? How come you havent spent any time with me lately" During this week leading into hunting season the male also must get ahead on honeydos. Because in the coming weeks all things that break (except truck ,ATV, or weapon) must sit until the end of hunting season before said hunter will worry about fixing them
Spot on mate.
BTW, Kris you're awful concerned about Lisa's marital status.
WTH is this thread about? Oh yeah, Jeremy's conversion.
Yeah i was alarmed because i knew she wasn't married for the longest time and then voila she says that, but i never got word of it. Oh well, doesnt matter to me, i dont want to take her from Mr Spiffysuit
Every girls crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man. That does not include britches that hang off your azz showing your underwear. That makes you a wanna be something that eludes me. But I digress.
Nah, you all wouldn't be interested in that anyway. I think I'm just gonna hang my pants off my a$$ to show my boxers, watch the crock hunter dance a little, and see if I can convince Lisa to ask me to marry her...I'd even put some Super Tech software in her sister's new computer if she said yes.
Alright, after a little OT here, I'm gonna check out for the night. Tomorrow I'll see if I can find those fittings at the hydraulic shop first, and then check the auto parts stores. I'm also going to see what I can find for getting the throttle cable hooked up. For that I've got to find something to attach to the ball on the Cummins throttle control and come up with some sort of spacer to hold the cable in place. I'd like to shorten the cable too, because it's about 2' longer than I need, but I don't know if it's possible to shorten a sheathed cable or not. Oh, and I also checked on just getting a Dodge throttle cable. Aside from the cable itself being $80, it would also be too short, so that idea won't work. I may just leave the cable long if I can figure out a way to make it work without modification to the actual cable.
Take your time Jeremy and do it right. Is the cruise electronic or one of those old school grab the throttle type units? I just don't know. It seems to be simple but I am sure it is not.
The cruise control is one of those old school types. I haven't even started on making that work yet. Basically though, it takes a cruise control servo from a gas engined Super Duty that will modulate the throttle.
The throttle on the 03-04 Cummins is kind of an electronic/mechanical hybrid. The cable from the pedal goes to a spring loaded position sensor that then sends an electronic signal to the ECM. The 04.5+ trucks have an electronic pedal assembly, similar to what the 7.3 has.
That's what I was afraid of. That has to be done right. Electronic control can be your friend sometimes. Seems Dodge was chasing Ford on this one. What a PITA. I am keenly interested in this aspect. I see the hold up now. Keep us posted.
Parts and pieces were picked up today. Went to the hydraulic shop and got the fittings I need for the oil filter relocation. Just like Kris said, those are some standard fittings so no problems there.
My next task for the truck was trying to figure out how to hook up the throttle cable. If you look at the left of the picture below, you'll see what I'm working with. You'll see the throttle arm that I have to attach the cable to the top of, with the ball on the end of it, and the metal frame it's bolted to that has the 1" hole in the back that the cable has to pass through and secure to.
I got it figured out today though. I don't have any pics, but I'll try to explain the best I can. That ball that the cable attaches to is a 10mm ball end and I had to find something that would work, because the Ford cable just has a lead barrel on the end, much like what's on a bike or motorcycle. I thought if I could find a ball socket, I could just cut the barrel off the end of the cable and attach the ball end.
After searching through the parts catalog at NAPA and not finding anything, I saw a page that had a 10mm ball available. Upon further looking, it was with the gas struts, like what's used on our hoods. We start searching through the struts in the store and found one that fit a 10mm ball. Luckily the end that attaches to the ball is threaded onto the strut, so I could remove it and use just the end that I needed. Next, I got a threaded stud and drilled a hole through it for the cable to pass through, where I can bring it back to clamp it to itself and secure the cable to the ball socket & stud. Cable attachment to the ball -- check.
Next was figuring out how to secure the cable to the hole in the back of the metal frame where it passes through. What I came up with is simply using some plumbing parts. I took a 1/4" compression to 1/2" female NPT for the outside and a 1/2" male NPT to 3/4" female NPT for the inside to pass through the frame and go into the first fitting. The outside of the cable is exactly 1/4", so it should fit and be cleanly secured in the compression fitting. A 3/4" washer on each side of the metal frame allows the NPT fittings to be tightened securely to the frame. So, I've got something that will hold the cable in place and that's going to be tightly secured to the frame. Cable attachment to the frame -- check.
Unfortunately, mother nature wasn't so kind this afternoon. Around 4:00 the skies opened and it began to rain, hard, for about the next two hours. Work on the truck wasn't going to happen today. I think I've got the throttle cable figured out though and the oil filter relocation should be pretty simple to do as well. I'm going to get those two things done first, then get to work on getting the second battery mounted up under the frame. Also still need to get some new cables made. IC tubes and coolant tank should be here tomorrow or Friday, so everything's getting very close. I don't know if I'll have time to get it finished up before I leave for the weekend, but if not, it shouldn't take much next week!
