Well I put a 9" Lift on my Ford this week, along with a set of 42" IROK's. The truck is huge, and everything I was hoping for. I posted pics to my album (I think). I ordered shocks the other day but I still need to have a driveline made, Fab up a tranny mount, install a wiring harness from my old '78, and figure out what I am going to do with my steering. I was thinking full hydraulic ... any thoughts?

 

Crossover would be best, and still streetable.

 

Having never run this big of tire before, my question would be would a stock power steering setup (with cross-over steering) have enough power to turn them? I guess thats why I was thinking of going with a hydraulic steering setup. And as far as street-able goes ... they gotta catch me first !!! LOL

My name is Marcus and I now own a 77 Crew 4x4 F-350 shortbox Custom. Mileage: unknown but who cares. 390 with a 4 speed. I dont really know a lot about it yet so I guess thats where you come in.

Future upgrades: Dana 70 rear swap, xlt grill and tube inserts, new front bumper, interior upgrades and paint!

My other ride is a 1954 chevy lowrider pickup. Dont hold it agains me...

 

It should do ok if your rolling a little.

 

There is no difference in grilles. (Besides the 3 different grilles used in this body style)
The '76-'77 Grille looks the best, In My opinion.
The '73-'77 Grilles, If you had the Ranger-XLT Trim Package, you just got a little red emblem on the grille that said XLT.
The Part Number is: D3TZ8213A.
If you don't already have one, grab one off E-Bay. Speakin' of which, I need to get one for my truck, Mine is long gone.

 

Ah thanks for that bit of info. The truck came with a staight grill and tube inserts. It also seams that I have the Ranger XLT 73-77 grill you pictured. My emblem isnt as nice but I think it will do for now!

I do have a tech question though. Being a 1 ton truck, Its a little heavier than I will probably ever need. Whats that easiest way to get a better/softer ride? Swap springs? remove some springs and add bags? Just curious what other people have done.

 

Well, Maybe you could swap to F-250 suspension...

F-350s ride very rough, I know because my truck is an F-350 as well.
I like 1 tons, always have, always will. It's better to have something that you may not need at the time, but be able to use it if you need it, so being a 1-Ton, your fine. I don't know if you do any towing or not, But if you do, you'd really appreciate the extra stiff suspension, and what not.

 

Ya thats why I was thinking about bags. I've seen people remove the back half of the leaf and put bags between the frame and axle. It would take a panard bar but thats no big deal.

My other idea was to remove the lower two springs (or swap for smaller leafs) then put bags in like the first option. Then I wouldnt need the additional link

 

The leafs from these old trucks leave LOTS to be desired. Messing around with different leafs in the pack, or even taking the pack apart and rounding/tapering the ends of the leafs can do wonders.

If you do the air bags for additional support while towing or hauling a heavy load then yes, you could get away with a much softer leaf.

 

Well I just joined this site and figured this is where I should start. I have a 1975 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 6 foot bed. She is currently my main work truck and family toy (Boat and RV) Hauler. I have had this truck since I believe 2001. It started life as a crash-rescue truck for Harrisburg PA Airport. Later on I guess the state auctioned it off and it was picked up as a welding truck and the utility body had a new purpose in life. This owner ran it till it overheated and siezed. I have no Idea how long ago this happened.
I found her as a bit of necissity. I had 2 children and a wife. Living in the Poconos in PA a good 4x4 is best to have, but can be pricey. I found this old rig in a used car lot just sitting there. The body was decent, she needed rims and tires. Still had the original split ring rims. I got her for $300.00. At that time she way chrome yellow. (Think School Bus). Since then she is on her 3rd 360 engine (re ringed the 2nd) and has been converted over to 4 speed stick. I have replaced the front cab mounts and both front floorpans as well as the cab corners. The utility body was re done with wood sides making it a regular bed. However somewhat ugly. She sits on BFG All terrain T/As now with newer wagon wheel style rims. I don't drive her much but it sees regular use towing my toys when I can take them out.
No future Mods planned as of now, just the basic repairs. She has needed more work for some time. Finally have the money to do so properly.

Neighbor up the street has it 4 sale and helping him find a place to list it. He only wants $500 and it is rust free.

with that d60 front end, one of us could use that axle to swap under one of our trucks. But seriously, this is not the place for common, boring 80 and up trucks to be sold, this is a discussion forum, not Craigslist. Oh, and did i mention Craigslist?

 

I agree F800, 80s Fords are boring, which is why i was wondering if it had any value at all. And FYI, the F350 diesel dually in 85 got a TTB axle?Surprised the heck out of me and why I passed on it. Wasn't hoping to sell it here at all, but I know it's taboo, so sorry.

 

It has a ttb? that sucks, I thought it had a solid axle. Oh well.
