The guy doesn't know, but from what I can guess (from reading here and elsewhere) it's just adapters in the rear. If not I'll just deal with it and have another "project" I guess!
If you decide not to go with this project, let me know as I'm looking into acquiring a project like this truck myself.
I picked up the 79 F350 CC today. First, I have to say it's nicer than I thought--I hadn't seen it in person until today--and aside from a number of little things it's it very good shape. (Glove box doesn't open, door panels need some clips, dome light cover needs to be replaced, some crummy tint in the back windows, tail gate rods out of whack, etc.)
No rust to speak of in the cab. Nothing anywhere, including drip rails, door posts, nothing. There is a close-range rifle or shotgun hole that needs to be patched, but that's about it in terms of issues there. DSO was to Phoenix and the truck still has the AZ flag on front license plate location (a popular thing to do--used to live in AZ myself). I know the region goes into NM, and this truck spent at least the last 10 years there, but overall a nice area for keeping metal from rusting.
Bed is actually in good shape. Some holes from the gooseneck hitch that came out, plus another gunshot type hole, but it's pretty solid. One thing that looks out of sync is how the bed sits on the frame. It kind of rests on the cross members but looks like there are some other spots where it should sit (but doesn't). I'm no expert so any thoughts on the pics is appreciated.
Looks like from the vin it's a chassis-cab from the factory. So the bed came later, with some custom work for those metal DRW flares. And with a 10,000 GVWR, from what the 79 brochure says, seems like the dual rear wheel tire/axle combo was factory (so so aftermarket spacers.)
Cargo light, running lights on cab, all other electrical all work. Auto shifts smoother than any rig I've ever had. Beginning to not worry about the dually factor (growing on me) or bed (flares aren't that rusted.) Even my wife likes it, says it's better than my 75 F250 4WD (I do sort of disagree.)
That does look like a cab and chassis frame, it looks like they have a bolt ahead of the crossmember when it should have been through it. It also looks like the spacer in the crossmember is too close to the outside of the frame to use the original bolt holes like you would on a single wheel pickup.
Hey guys, does anybody have a '78 or '79 Crew that has the cargo light on the upper back part of the cab (outside) and the switch inside the cab on the B or C pillar. parts book shows this was only used 73-77, just want to verify.
Thanks!
Mine has a shell on i that looks like it has been on it since new, it also has a plate where the cargo light would have been and a switch on the c pillar. I just picked this up recently and haven't even put a battery in it, but I assume the switch controls the dome light and it originally had the cargo light, it is a 78, build date is 10/77.
There is a cargo light switch in my 79 F350 CC that looks/operates like the one in my 75 F250. Only difference is it's over the rear seat passenger's left shoulder (instead of driver's). Same placement, roughly, but in back "cabin".
70 Bronco TX, is your's a Custom or Ranger XLT? I'm wondering what option package one had to order to get a cargo light. Mine is a '78 Custom without the cargo light, but I've also seen Ranger XLT's (1978 and 79 models, crews and regular cabs) that also do not have the cargo lights. Any one have some logic on this one?

Mine is a Ranger XLT...you either had the choice of Custom or Ranger XLT (no Ranger or Lariat option in the crew cab.) According to my 79 Ford Truck brochure it was part of the optional "Light Group" (it reads, "lights in glove box, ashtray, under instrument panel and under hood. Also cargo box light."
I'm pretty sure you could order this option with any trim level, including Custom. The person who ordered my truck way back then would have had to add the light group--it didn't come with the Ranger XLT trim level. (Discovered that they also ordered the illuminated visor vanity mirror for the front passenger-my wife liked seeing that!)
fuel tank from 2wd??? only if it has the 34" wide frame, most likely not, but I am not that knowledgable of the older 2wd's, I think they have the 37" wide frame back by the fuel tank...let the tape measure decide that for you...
