Ok, so I bought a '73 CC a while back and have been using a '78 F-150 for a donor. Well the previous owner has Hacked the h*ll out of the truck,
Specifically the front end. The previous owner had put a 6.9 diesel in it, anyway at the moment I am trying to put the radiator mount (front clip) in the '73 from the '78 but it apears that he cut the frame and welded in lower mounts to the outside of the frame....so the front clip wont match up. I believe this was done in part because he used a different steering gear box. It's a mess! Does anyone have pic's of what it should look like? Are the lower mounts for the radiator support centered in the front part of the frame? It looks to me like they were, but the previous owner torched the frame out. I think I am going to have to box the frame, and start over. Any thoughts?

hah! yes an internally STOCK brand new '73 460. going into a c-6 then directly into a t136-127 2-1/2 ton t-case, then into full width 5 ton rockwells with rims made from 1/2 inch thick plate, and 48" XL's. the amount of driveline power absorbsion is astronomical, so i go about 40 down hill. I am planning for a detroit diesel or cat engine in the future though. until then i got some 40" XL's to throw on it.

I believe Ford did that because the early 4wds were built on 2wd frames that narrowed in front to make fords truck turn sharper than the chevy. As 4wd became more accepted, frames were designed specifically for them in order to lower the center of gravity to make the trucks more tow friendly, less likely to roll and easier to enter.
