I have seen this approach done before. The bed front ends up being real close to the wheelwell. It looked like they had trouble making the body lines look correct. The whole truck looked a little out of proportion.
I have finally traded for a long wanted crew. This is a project that I will not be starting until next winter, so I will be just thinking and makeing up my plan for awhile.
But I have a question for you crew guys. This is a 78 2X and the inside of the bed measures 6' 11" to the inside of the tailgate, so it is too short for a long bed, But I thought a short bed was 6' are the crews a specific bed.
Here is a picture of my new project. The bed is apperently not the original, as it doesn't appear to ever have had dual tanks.
That is the correct bed. That is just the length Ford made them. That is a good looking truck. Nice project. Check out my gallery. 77 Ford 1 ton 4x4-Hillbillylimo
my did it was a front tank and the back door was fix were you could not open it dont know y i jest thout that thay all were mad for rear tank even if it diten
I was wondering if anyone has any fix pictures of the roof rust repair? I am contimplating doing mine this summer and am not a pro bodyman but it looks like it may just take a strip on sheet metal to fix it up. Has anyone documented this roof fix? As for the gas tanks, Mine has the incab tank as wekk as I built a 15gallon between the rails tank right behind the cab. Works great as the 22 gallon tank got me just around the block with that 545!!
Sorry guys, I was so excited that there was a crewcab only section now i posted from the first page of the site! This is great! I was wondering if anyone had any luck getting new rear doors, or the lower body "T" on the middle post, or a 6 foot box side panel? I have been surfing with no luck as of yet!
I have been pricing beds.... would like to maybe sell my 8 footer and pickup a short bed. There are a couple of places in the midwest that have beds for 700-1000 bucks. by gthe time you buy a bedside and do the work, you could have bought the whole bed.
If it was the correct bed would it have both fuel doors even though it only has the midship tank.
Yes, there are quite a few crews that came with no rear tank.

There are no rear doors available new at all.
The center post repair section I think I have seen on ebay before.
Only bedsides I've seen in the aftermarket are for a longbed.
Thanks for the info, I thought that was the case on thew doors, I do have one rear passager spare. I will check out ebay for the center post too. Yah mine had a shortbox but someone lifted it from the shop. Not good.
Thanks it is a good start for a project. There is very little rust just trying to get started.
Are the shortbeds on the crews the same as the single cabs.
