With it being a 78 (or a 2wd) the rear tank should be fairly easy as a rear tank out of a 2wd should be easy to "bolt" in. Now you may need the cross members that the tank mounts to out of a donor truck. Maybe not though. I've never looked into it too much. Doesn't seem like it would be hard at all though.

custom ordered/built tank or the broncoII tank is what some use, I bought a 74 crew cab just for the custom stainless steel rear fuel tank, Bucks77 ordered and installed one built by an aftermarket co.
pic of custom built tank..built to fit w/in frame rails and around existing crossmembers

pic standing on end outside of truck

Is it not a 78 then?

In that case - try and find the tank out of a Super Camper Special. That's what I grabbed for my crew - but it's only 19 gallons.

The build date is 10/77. When did they change the frame.

77.5

Who knows with Ford though. They do whatever the heck they feel like by flinging whatever parts they have that day at whatever vehicle comes down the line...

Well everything appears original on this one. when I looked at it I was glad to see two fuel doors as I will need two tanks, but it doesn't look like it every had 2 tanks, so I guess that was one of their quirks. lol
