I guess it comes down to the probabilty of an outsider abusing them. In my case; I could leave the truck open and unattended for a month with the key in it and it would be like time has stood still.
It looks like it's going to be a bear to put back, Took me a while to get apart. Reading all the posts and pics really helps. Some explain better for my brain..
Just make sure that you have good connectivity with the foil that you put in. If you do it just like my picture shows then you will be fine. The first time I ripped mine apart and put it all back together it didn't work because I didnt have good connectivity. Had to rip it all apart again! Works really well now though.
Yeah, I did it! Only 1 side, Works like a champ. Cool Cool, I love beating those 80.00- to 150.00 guys. Got to tell you though, It was tough taking apart all those rods and clips.
Taking the latch screws (3) out made it more movable. Other side will be a breeze. Thanks to all you guys, We beat them..... Also take loose the window rail, Lots easier.
I cant remember how many years ago I did this but mine are still working and it has been several. Glad to see this is still alive and well. I put mine back together with stainless button head allen bolts. Just because we sell dress up kits for four wheelers and I had a bunch of them.
after 43 pages, is the directions in post 3 still accurate and effective?.....and are the pictures on page 42 the only pic/video in this thread?....just kinda wish the meat of this mod was up around the first few posts......otherwise, thanks so much for the hard work and efforts of all that have contributed. I look forward to getting this done on my newly purchased 2000 Super Duty. Thanks.
Thanks everyone - my 2000 Super Duty had the lock problem, and I fixed it with your advice. The tin foil was easy to install. I put the actuators back together using zip ties, and it has been working perfectly for a couple of weeks. Thanks again!!

I want to thank all you guys that posted instructions, pictures, tips, and tricks. Thanks to all of you I have all four of my doors working again. It took me 2 hours on the first door, but after that, only about 30 minutes on the others.
The Ford dealership wanted $220 bucks a door to fix the locks. When I told my wife how much money I saved doing it myself, I instantly became a hero (plus I got to buy some other toys I was wanting).
No problem bud! Gotta love saving an $880 stealership bill. Glad you could use it as an excuse to get some toys too! Plus, chicks dig heroes. Sounds like you need to keep doing repairs on your truck and telling her about them so you can keep modding = )
I fixed all 4 locks on my 2001 F-250 crew cab following the instructions in this thread. The only issue I had was that I broke one of the plastic clips (green/black clip that the rod between the door key lock and the lever on the latch). I built a simple bracket to replace it (see picture below):
I couldn't be happier with how the locks work now!
