They do perform better than new and open/close with a whack! and I can hear them at a distance if they are working with my fob. Yep, it's all good.........
Okay so i have done this and it works great, but i have a problem!!
6 months after doing this for some reason a 10 amp fuse blows when i use my power seats, when it does this my door locks go erratic and lock/unlock constantly until i replace the fuse. Well i took my truck to a shop to get something else fixed and the fuse blew so the locks went off and the shop did nothing to try and stop them... they went untill they stopped working all together. My guess is that the motors have been burnt up now? When i hit the lock button i can hear the relay switch but no lock movement? Thoughts anyone? is there any other fuse or anything that could have blown and stopped the motors from burning up?

You didn't mention which doors you did. I don't remember a relay on the door locks? I thought they were just fused direct w/no relay. It has been about 2 yrs since I did mine. It is also possible you have a problem in the power seat. I suspect a possible cut wire on the power seat. My $.02.
I think you are correct, it is possible to burned out one motor and be shorted . The solution would be to isolate the doors one at a time to verify the problem door. Granted they plug in behind the panel.
Thanks for the great info, this really works well! I took mine apart today and now they work like new. Here are some pics to help out with the fix, the are resized for dial-up (hey get high speed, I am in a third world country and have it!). I put this back a little different. I used that plastic epoxy stuff around the edges, I held the two halves together with vice grips until it was hard.
Pic one is the unit after the two rivits were removed
Prying the unit apart
The open unit minus the motor
Prying the two tabs open on the motor
The opened motor the little metal piece to wrap in tin foil is on the left side of the cap
Now the motor getting ready to be put back together the part is wraped in foil on the right side in this pic.
Just did my doors yesterday. Started with drivers side rear door since it did not work at all. Took over a hour for that one. The rear doors were harder than the the fronts for me. Got so i could do one in about 20min. All are working great.
Nice to see people are still utilizing this thread. It has been a few years since I did mine, but they are still working. The dirviers side door seems to get stuck half way sometimes but a second hit of the button takes care of that.
Great thread thanks again
Thanks!!! Took about 1.5 hours I guess to do the one door. Others are working for now.
I did the left rear door on my '01 Excursion, but now I realized that my rear window hatch does not work either. Can't even lock it with a key.
Your hatch latch/linkage is full of crud. Remove the inner cover and clean it and lube it up with a good spray lube. Make sure and pay special attention to the back of the lock cylinder.
Mine was the same way, works great for over a year now.
Thanks to everyone who posted here. I did my driver's side door today. I had planned on doing three doors, but apparently my wife had other plans for my time today. Anyway everything went smooth, thanks to everyone for the great input. I did have one, oh c*ap moment. I put everything back together, got in the truck and and the interior light stayed on. I check the switch, it was off. I started the truck and the light stayed on. At this point I was getting worried because some the of the posters said they were having light problems after doing the fix. I opened and closed my door, light still on. Then I realized I had left one of the back doors ajar. Shut the door and the light goes off. Just Thought I would post in case someone else goes brain dead.
Oh, and my lock is working great, woot.
