Superchips 6.0 Microtuner Thread
They are not ready yet.
Currently, only 03-04 are supported.
I just finished reading this entire thread… I now need an aspirin or a beer, or maybe both. What a great information exchange. Yea, it gets a little tiring seeing some folks chime in and ask the same question over and over… I’ll try not to repeat that, so here is one that I have not seen…
I run a Banks Six-Gun and Speedloader with the Banks Turbo-back exhaust. I have a Banks Technicooler intercooler enroute and it should arrive any time now. Yes, my Banks is a fuel box, yes it cost me a bunch, and no it does nothing for the tranny (no influence on it for tuning), but I love it. I am considering the purchasing the SCMT as well and WILL NOT STACK THEM. I really just want to see the difference between the two, and experience the benefit of the transmission tuning in the SCMT. I also want a code reader, and the flexibility of the tuner. Again, I do not intend to run them simultaneously- at least not both “active”. The banks unit has 6 settings, setting 1 is “stock”. If I were to set the Banks to the lowest, or stock level, would it be safe to try a tune from the SCMT as long as the Banks was not in any type of performance increase setting?
Thread participants: By the way, Banks has been around for YEARS and has done extensive testing on the 6.0. They have set the EGT limit at 1400 and have never seen a problem. I was told by one engineer that they are comfortable running at that temp for quite some time. Now, gentlemen (and ladies?) PLEASE DO NOT FLAME ME OR BANKS.
I have run the snot out of my truck and have had no problems whatsoever. I am not comparing brands, product types, or making any other statements except to ask if I can run the SCMT with the Banks at “idle”. I just don’t want to disconnect all the bloody harnesses- I worked quite hard to make them nearly unnoticeable. If I bring my truck to the dealer, I rip it out. I don’t care that it takes a little time. I like what I have read here on this thread and it has impressed me enough to spend another $400 on the SCMT. I may even do back to back dyno runs and publish the data… if I like the SCMT better, maybe I will sell the other unit. All that being said- I hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
PS- with all this tak about mileage, I get 16-18 depending on how much I'm into the throttle- that is with or without the Banks. Don't forget... "nothing is free", and the 6.0 makes tons more HP and torque that the 7.3 did, so it gets a little lower mileage... we still have the best overall game in town here!
I'm not sure yet...too early to tell.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Innovative diesel sells the Superchips Custom units, and I have been looking into getting one. They offer a tune that they CLAIM is safe to stack with the Edge Juice (I suppose the injector timing advance has been removed) and will tune the transmission.
Can I order this tuning through Motorhaven, since the carry the SCT stuff?
The box I was specifically looking at came with a tune for the *safe* stacking program (once again, I would like to have your input on this, Vic) and a transmission only program (which I would like to have in any scenario).
IF these custom programs are safe for stacking, would this program have the same style powerband as the primary 150 hp program for the 1704 (ie retains torque all the way to 4300 rpms) and still maintain the low end grunt of the edge tuning?
I really miss the feel of my 1704....it just doesn't lay the peak power down like the Edge box
Even though it drives far, far better.
Does Superchips offer custom tuning of existing 1704 SCMT units for extreme enthusists like PSD 60L Fx4. You had also mentioned that if someone wanted to add water injection with the SCMT you recommended custom tuning. If custom tuning of existing hardware was available, it would save the additional cost of another tuner.
Thanks in advance.
