I just flashed my truck back to stock in order to send my SC 1704 back to Superchips to eliminate the harsh shift at light throttle "issue" (RA# 14428). Boy am I going to miss that tune for a while! Everyone with a tuner needs to flash back to stock once in a while in order to truly appreciate the gains provided by the tuner. Superships says 8 - 10 working days for the turnaround. They also say if the tuner is over 30 days old their is a $10.50 shipping charge. They did agree to waive the shipping charge after much discussion. It would sure be nice if Superchips would catch up with Predator with online updates and Dyno charts, hint hint hint!

You are correct, it can become a habit with HP

OK, for the 2003's you need the latest flash, but most are reporting problems with the latest flash. How will this effect the tuner? Even the dealer is advising against the latest flash 'cause of all the problems. Does the tuner override this so it's not an issue?

Towing in Econ Mode

Previously I posted my experience pulling my 12,000 pound gooseneck using the Tow Mode on the SCMT (Post #579).

Last weekend I tried the towing ability and tested MPG when using Economy Mode to tow. The EGTs were good, I did have to back off once (EGT 1250+) while trying to accelerate up a hill, the truck still gained speed just not as fast. Other than that one time, the EGTs rarely got over 1100.

The mileage was less than I got in tow mode 9.5 vs. 10.3 calculated top off to top off. The overhead also showed the lower numbers.

I got great MPG in Econ Mode unloaded (Post #590) 18.5 MPG, so I guess my next test is to see how many miles I can squeeze out driving unloaded in tow mode since I do not want to swap back and forth between programs.

I will keep you informed.
Tom

Because of load perception (the way the PCM perceives load) and the way the fuel tables are done and boost curve in relation to this load, you should get better mileage with the econ unloaded than you would with the tow file unloaded (as long as you don't have a happy foot). Even with a light load, the econ USUALLY mkaes better mileage than the tow file.
With a heavy load, the tow file will usually give you your best mileage.
Keyword here is USUALLY. =o)

There are of course many varaibles here....beginning with your driving habits.
Let us know what happens in your situation.

At what speed did you get the 18.5 mpg?

Anyone here of SCMT that will be able to download files from the net like the predator?

I have the SCMT and was having problems with the shifting at 28 to 35 mph in the econ. mode . Also had very frim shift point , but think that is common from what i read in the threads and is a good thing??? Well I called to ask SCMT and talked to a tech and he told me to ship it back so they could check it out , but I will have to pay for shipping there , and they will pay to ship back. at 8 bucks no big deal . But if they start having newer versions that is 8 bucks a version , Predator no need to send in. I am not downgrading the Performance i got from my SCMT but would be interested to try a predator for the easy update capability.

Maybe the SCMT does not need this casue it is far better and will not need anymore versions of software . ... well there is the can of worms opened for all to pick at . these are must my opinons not valid satments and not liable in any way or form ....

Enjoying this site too much.

This was not a global "update", it was some isolated files that were a little too firm at part throttle. I don't anticipate any future 'updates' unless an issue arises, and issues are generally isolated to one or a few files.

I spent a LOT of time making sure this is done correctly, so there won't have to be revisions =o)

Speaking of this tranny update, is it ready to go now or are you still working on it? My tuner's been there since 06/10 awaiting this update and I was allowing some extra time for finalization of the program tweak. Do you have a return ETA? RA14205.
