I have never heard of someone who has a the latest flash at the time and not needing to send it in to SC.
How would the latest and greatest flash be in the database of the hand-held tuner when the tuner was bought before the flashes were released.
I own a SCMT 1704 and i love it but it makes sense that any time a new flash comes out and is installed on a truck the unit will ALWAYS have to go back to SC?
Can anyone make a case for this not being how it is?
Often times it does not have to go back to SC.
Remember, Ford is having issues with flashes, and the aftermarket has to adapt but also follow through new files with proper testing....not point and click tuning.
Sometimes, sc gets the files very early, before they get into many trucks.
Sometimes they don't get it until you plug the tuner into your freshly updated truck.
I had a 03 superduty with the 1704 that was a total screamer, (enough to roll the 33x12.5` thru 3rd gear.) Now I have a 05` with the 1704a and it is a major pooch compared to the older truck. I also recently installed a banks turbo back kit with no cat or muffler and it really didnt make much of a difference. I know the 05`s are a lil different but what should I do to get the performance my 03` had. Maybe a custom tune? I drive the truck on the weekends only and use it occasionally at the truck pulls so I am not worried about driveability. I have owned all three now for my trucks 1704, 1704a, and a 1705 for my 96`. HELP ME OUT!! haha
If you go back through this thread you will find that Vic has addressed your questions before ... in a nutshell, he said that the '03 trucks were significantly more powerful than the 04's and 05's, and that if you blindfolded him and put him behind the wheel in a straight line he'd be able to tell you which one he was in.
My understanding (I have an early 05 X) is that there is nothing you can do about it without MAJOR mods...
I suspect Vic will be around shortly to back this up.
I posted last week and asking questions about some noises comming from my engine on my 2005 f350 Diesel with SC installed. I had used all three settings since I installed the Superchip. I removed the install and drove it a few times and then took it to Ford. I got a call today from Ford that the Turbo was damaged from over spinning. I would like to know if anyone thinks the chip might have caused it. Ford did not say anything about the reason for failure and will replace it. I have not been towing with it except a light boat for about 100 miles in Performance mode. I am wondering if when I get the Ford back should I reinstall the chip? If the the Turbo goes out again they might start asking questions and not be as cooperative.
I am very happy with the performance of the SA and want to reinstall it.
If it is not the chip, what could cause the turbo to overspin and has anyone else had this problem?
O.K. I will try get the details as accurate as I can, but this is what my friend is experiencing and I told him I would try find an answer.
He bought a SCMT for his 2004 F-350 from another friend of ours who had it on his 2004 F-350. The friend who was selling it thinks he can get more power/performance if he spends more money on a Banks system, but I'll let him figure that out for himself.
The new owner of the SCMT had his vehicle in recently for the tranny recall, so the tuner would not install because of the new flash. He contacted SC, got a RA, and sent it in to be reprogramed. He got it back and went to install it. It prompted him if he had a F-450 or F-550, so he said no, but it wouldn't install. He tried it again with the same prompt and results. The next time he tried, he answered yes to the prompt and it installed. He said it runs fine and he really likes the power, but wonders if he should send it back in. He is currently away from home and the truck until Thursday the 14th. What should he do? Call Superchips or is everything OK and could he have read the prompt wrong?
The answer is simple ... he SHOULD call Superchips and explain the circumstances to them directly. They will be able to tell him whether he should send it back or whether it is safe to use with the "non-typical" settings he apparently chose.
...or maybe he misunderstood the prompt, as you mentioned.
In either case, his best bet is to contact the experts and let them advise him on how to best resolve the situation.

Doesn't anyone have a comment about the turbo failing because of overspinning? Surely I am not he only one that has had a problem.
Has anyone experience a rattle and/or a sound like the flexing of sheet metal on their PSD? Mine occurs when getting on the throttle and having to suddenly let off. When I get out of the throttle, I hear what sounds like shaking a piece of sheetmetal for a couple seconds.
