To be fair, it isn't their job to care about anyone outside.
Never implied that was their job, but the real world is a good reference. Being unrealistic when compared to the rest of the working class. Especially with non skilled positions.

If I am a non skilled person, what can I expect? My abilities are a dime a dozen and automation is slowly eating up what I do. No different than mechanization ate up a lot of farm jobs. I don't need a huge family to support my farm anymore. 1 machine makes up for quite a few and more. I really didn't care for school when I was young. Couldn't wait to graduate from HS so I could go out and do what I wanted, got kids, etc, etc. You, OTOH, spent your time in school when you were younger, got a better job, made sacrifices to rise up the ladder and now you make much more money than I do. Sure, some can argue that your family did help you advance. Maybe. This is what I see in families. They don't help out of the goodness of their hearts. There is an unspoken "quid pro quo". If your cousin backs you, there is a reason. You have to be able to back him someday. That means, you can't be a worthless POS that can't stay out of jail long enough to get a job. You have to be someone worthwhile that can help them in the future. Consider their help an investment and if they don't see it paying off, they aren't going to bother to help you. Regardless, someone can open doors for you but the can't walk through the door for you. You still need to be able to make it work even if they help you get the job. Bottom line, you are still going to have to earn your keep on a DAILY basis. If I choose to live paycheck to paycheck, what right have I to grumble that you are making bank many times over me? Also, if I am so worthy, maybe I should do your job, IF I CAN, that is.
Make no mistake, during this KTP idle period, I'm sure managers have been tasked to look at what positions can be cut, and how. Nothing is free. Ford will give in to get the plant running again and some workers will return with targets on their backs. All three manufacturers will look to get the money back they gave to the unions. Look at fast food. Workers demanded $16/hr. They got it and now there are less counter people and self order kiosks everywhere, dining rooms no longer being built in many new restaurants, etc. Lots of jobs disappeared. The big three will do the same.

the reality is that most of these jobs are semi automated. A monkey could do a lot of them. I'd take the hit and break the union.
Technology has been there for decades already to obsolete the human worker from many fixed variable jobs. Human labor is still cheap enough around the world that it hasnt happened to any measurable (tens-hundreds of millions unemployed) capacity. Go for it UAW, push for more than you are worth and watch the jobs go south of the border/overseas or fully automated.

Unfortunately I pay too. My reward points are less and the price of the stuff is up. Things I bought from my dogs on the dollar menu are no longer there.
The UAW grand poo paw is now going after Fords juggler vein and is not willing to budge on negotiating. At this point, the auto industry as a whole, needs to send a message to the grand poo paw and to start hiring personnel and let him know on a weekly basis which union workers will no longer be needed and put this clown on the defensive. This process will take some time but will put the auto industry in a better place long term.

Or as someone suggested, cave today and replace as many as possible with machines.
In today's environment, the UAW has no room to try and strong-arm Ford, GM or Stellantis. Moderate COLA raises and benefit retention is fine, but the publicly announced demands are unreasonable and shouldn't even be considered. Yes, more robots, automation and other countries should absolutely be the next step, if so.

I'm so sick of the current labor force, I'd be happy to see automation remove the demand for the human worker. Frankly, it can't be worse than what we get from them today.
Funny you say that.... I saw a clip from one of the UAW strike locations a couple of days ago, they had a guest speaker, and that guest was everybody's favorite socialist senator........
I love Bernie Bros.... they buy his bull**** hook, line and sinker... He is worth several million dollars, while earning $174K per year, starting in 2007 at $165.2K
Funny, Bernie has only had 2 pay raises in 16 years
You don't think campaign contributions and member encourage for election purposes has anything to do with it? My wife had to request back money taken from her because she didn't want to support political fundraising. In spite of that, we kept getting robocalls to support this or that Democrat who was running for election YEARS AFTER she no longer worked for the union.
