What's the previous history of UAW with Ford ? In time wise? shortage strike? longest ? average length. PIA. Holding my order up. I can't see it over soon. If they went on strike they meant for a while being Ford wouldn't cave in immediately i'm sure.
The easy path may not be what it seems. Our entire country is mobilizing for war in foreign lands right now, after sending weapons, training and cash to those regions. I don't like this at all, without getting too political, you know we have a very unpopular commander-in-chief who is approaching an election. Meanwhile the country is also not exactly being defended. While yes, the government may pay for everything, still suicide rates are off the charts. Seriously something is going on.
All irrelevant. If I sign up, I expect to go to war tomorrow. What do you think the military is? Monday through Friday, 8 to 5,followed by happy hour and country club weekends? Maybe the suicide problem is the person is weak and expecting it to be an easy ride. When the military exposes them, that if life is going to be so difficult, might as well end it now.
AFAIK, military has had a higher suicide rate before the current CIC. Think about Israel. Everyday could be your last day, citizen or not, civilians or military. Their stress should be so high, it would be a wonder how any people are alive.

No one said life was supposed to be easy. History tells us we need to work for what we want.

I have been serving for 26+ years (and still going...for now) and it is interesting times in the military today. There are a lot of new joins that think this is a 8-5 job and a lot that don't make it past their first year of service, but the ones that do make it get it. The military is a reflection of society; it does not matter who the CIC is. I will say the programs being forced upon the military have made being a senior leader less fun, but rest assured, the Marines are still ready to go.
On the topic at hand, the only reason I care about the UAW is because I have a truck order that is now delayed because of their actions. My opinions on the matter are skewed because I have a bias stepping into the conversation. I hope the matter resolves itself so I can continue on with my life plan without being hostaged by a bunch of people trying to get more money for the same amount of work. However, if I were in their situation, I would be walking around saying I need more money too.
I certainly don't feel like I get enough pay for what I do and my level of responsibility. I get it.
It's true we've seen an unbelievable investment in war in distant places unrelated to the United States especially in recent years. This all seems to be compromising our defense, but no doubt there will be lots of training and benefits. I don't want to go too far off topic. Best of luck in your service to our country! Tell your commanders about the border to the south.

I haven't worked for the government, so I don't receive checks from them, and I also don't believe anything they say, it's almost always bull****. I also know by the sheer volume of forms, checks, hoops and busywork that the government wants everybody to go to work for somebody else. Circling back to unions, I like to encourage people to be as independent as possible, and this includes workers, because then you can also can be independent minded.
Joined at 18, retired at 39 in 1992, picked up 3 years of college along the way.
Wife joined at 20, retired at 40 in 1995, her job transferred to the GS side and she gave them 18 years and retired again at age 58. She liked school more than me and picked up a MBA along the way.
Both of us joined because the pickings were slim in the small towns we grew up in.
We never went on strike. If we wanted to get promoted you had to hit the books hard (USAF).
You can make as much as you want out of life. But don’t expect it to be given to you.
Our son didn’t care for college. He had decent jobs for 8 years or so out of high school. He got tired of watching his friends excell so he buckled down and got his RN degree. He wanted more so recently finished his BSN. Now he is making $50 an hour. He could quit his job today and have another before he made it to his car.
No one is entitled to anything. Get off your *** and go get it.
All i will say, is to those of you that joined the military, and retired after 20 years. You guys/gals deserved it! And THANK YOU! Damn country doesn't do nearly enough for anyone that's joined the military.
Father in law, and a couple Uncles are Vietnam Vets. So it's near and dear to me.
The lower wage tier person after just 3 years is making more than the 5 dollar a day equivalent, and as you said, it's not technical work.
You do know I was referring to what the strikers are getting today, $500 a week. Back when it was $5 an hour in todays money thats $765 a week.

Unlimited sick leave, and at least 30 days paid vacation a year. Hell, they will even pay for your college while you are in and once you retire. Or pass along the college benefit to one of your kids. Many people enter the military with zero college and leave with a BA, BS, or higher at the end of their career.
Join at 18, retire at 38, and suck at the government tit for the rest of your life because you earned it.
Just stop bitching how bad you have it and do something about it.
This is what my Son is planning in 2 years. Air Force. He wants to get into aviation, not flying, but the mechanics of aviation, and it will be a great stepping stone. Who knows, he might wind up on the Aurora team.

Having served in both the AF and the NAVY, 29 years total....your son is more likely to get a guarantee of aviation in the Navy than he is in the AF. That's just the truth. Get him interested in the P-8 Poseidon, the P-3 replacement) and he could do an entire career and never step foot on a boat!

Well maybe. I did 8.5 years with the P3's. Detailer in Washington said it was time for me to be on a boat. He offered no options other than carrier assignments. I was an Aviation Electronics tech for P-3 systems. So with that, I left. I thought it was a waste as I would have gone to 20 years. But I was not going to put my life in a seabag when I hadn't need to for 8.5 years.

What is so bad about a boat again? Not like we have a lot that sink, is it?
