Use FE cam bearings. The 460 and the FE both share common 2.124-inch cam journals. Hope your day got better brother.
The reason it's so hard putting in the cam of a 460 is it is fairly unique in its use of common-size 2.250-inch cam bore diameters in all five positions. The FE block-like most popular engine designs-has progressively sized cam bore diameters that get smaller as you move from the front of the block to the rear. So it doesn't tighten up until you get to the last one.
You don't have to buy five complete FE cam bearing sets to get the ones you need. Just score a Durabond PN FP-15-4T. It's a five-pack of standard-size No. 4 FE cam bearings. Remember to index the oil feed holes in the cam bores to the slots in the bearings before driving them home. If your block has even deeper cam bore damage than ours, know that the FE's No. 3 (2.280-inch), 2 (2.295-inch), and 1 (2.310-inch) cam bearings are progressively larger than the No. 4 bearing (2.265-inch) used in this story. So you have plenty of options for going oversize.
Yep, that's the first thing I noticed when I measured cam journals. I said to myself, "Hold on a minute, let me overthink this." I ran and grabbed old camshafts from 302 and 400. I may have to go back and check the DVR to see the expression on my face, but I believe it looked like,.....

Found these + .010 BBF Dua Bonds from this outfit. Says they have 2 sets and ship overnight. They have + .020 also. Unless your looking for coated that's a different kettle of fish Dura Bond catalog
Well poop! Just to make sure the cam bearings weren't installed crooked, I installed a new set. Same issue. Camshaft will install, but it's just way too tight. And I believe I narrowed it down to #3 as the bore that's slightly out of position. I called Don at Diamond Racing, he said he'd fix it. Hopefully it'll just take a little bearing scraping. I have a couple of bearing scrapers, but I don't trust myself with that task. Block is loaded up and ready to transport first thing tomorrow morning. Tough break, but I did at least confirm one thing that's good news. You can install #1 & #2 cam bearings from inside the block. That makes it much easier to get them properly aligned.
Oh, and the Ohio Crankshaft complete rotating assembly is being delivered tomorrow. At least that's a "WOO HOO!".
Scrappy is on my lap now, staring at me. Can't tell if she's consoling me, or if she wants me to clean her poop box.
Road trip tomorrow will be fun. And I love hanging out at that race shop. And it'll give me opportunity to stop and the post office to send Rich a package.
I dropped the block off at machine shop this morning. Hopefully they can get the cam bores done quickly.
Look what arrived this afternoon! I thought going with aluminum heads would even out the weight between the big block and my iron head 400. However, I think this crankshaft damn near makes up the lost weight. I never want to lift that thing again. I was planning to start gapping piston rings this evening, but that obviously can't happen until I get the block back.
Scrappy immediately noticed the smaller Big Block Chevy rod journals on the crankshaft. I explained to her the advantages, but I think she'll need a day or two to accept it.
Rich, I shoulda waited a day to send your stack of decals.
He looks like, and probably behaves the same as a long hair tom I had of the same color. (not that I treat cats differently based on color, creed, religion, plumbing, sexual identification, or political party affiliation). His birth name was Tippy, but we called him Lumpy because he always looked like an inanimate lump.
