I'm curious, how are your quarter window hinges? My drivers side, when I open it, the window drops about 1/4 inch. The glass has chipped the paint about a foot before the back edge, and of course when I close the window it has to jump over the edge again indicating one of my hinges has some slop in it. Can those hinges be replaced/ re glued to the glass, or am I out of luck?

No Issues there, I did inspect them. I also sourced a spare set from the junkyard, since I waited too long to buy a set from Ford before they went NLA this year.
I miss your updates and reading about your progress
Many thanks. I didn't think any were actually following this thread.
I have been doing the similar stuff on my 3 year old travel trailer ahead of the camping season, so been pretty busy. I recently bought a 2000 nearly complete 7.3 Limited, that I will part out for spare parts. I will be moving the Park Assist system over from that to mine. I just ordered a new bumper, all the sensors, and the sensor brackets from Ford ahead of the migration. My 01 was not optioned with the Park Aid, I have thought about it many times, and walked by complete systems in the junkyard. But even though it may now be as effective on my lifted X, I decided to factory add it anyway. The 2000 parts X came with the direct bolt on 18" rims. I will be having these re finished and power-coated in partial black, and the original polished surfaces, polished again. Stay tuned......
This is one of the few threads I drool over. I love your meticulous attention to detail, and how well you document it. This is the standard by which the rest are judged. It's definitely been an inspiration for me as I begin to layout my plans for my 2009 F250. I want to document it in the same level of detail as you do. I've noticed that, generally speaking, the truck guys don't go deep into it like we do here in the Ex forum. Even the tech folder isn't laid out as good.
Today I put the big tires back on till my November trip, and I finally replaced all the steering linkage with the OE Ford parts I bought a couple months back. Off to the alignment shop on Friday.
Didnt want to read the whole thread but.... The opening(s) where the air deflector meets the bumper.... did you change this? My truck, an '01 7.3 does not have this opening. Just wondering. Thanks.

I had to do a little research for your answer as I didn't remember. No, I did not modify the lower valance openings, but I did replace the original front bumper a few years ago because the chrome was starting to fade. In doing so, I just ordered a new front bumper cover, and lower valance from the dealer. The original lower valance was hacked up by the previous owner to mitigate the larger tires from rubbing.
In looking at past pics, I had what you have now. Either I never noticed the change, (I'm sure I did), or I just accepted it and moved on. So current replacement under valance now has these 4 openings.
I remember when I replaced the rear bumper cover, it didn't come down as low on the face of the bumper, maybe 1/2" shorter, but I will be picking up the new rear bumper tomorrow at the dealer.

I'm doing lipstick on a pig.? I dunno, it's no major engine, lift or drivetrain thread for sure. I think I'm just having some creative fun for now.
Late Feb I picked up a 2000 7.3 parts donor vehicle. This will provide a small stock of some critical mechanical parts, and engine if ever needed. It's rough, has tons of rocker cancer, but I plan to slowly pick at it. I was able to connect my transmission range sensor to the harness, and get this one started to verify what works, and how it runs. One of the things I decided to transfer over was the parking aid system. My X and probably many others that weren't fully equipped with it is partially wired already. Since the bumper, sensors, and sensor bumper brackets are still avail from Ford, I have already ordered them.
There was an unbelievable amount of accessory, and aftermarket wiring I have already removed. This was done so I could clearly understand what factory stuff works, and what does not.
Found another 2001 in the semi local junkyard Saturday, had been there only a day. I grabbed the park aid system, and park aid dash trim from it to have another spare in case the black 2000 system had issues. The black park assist powers up, but defaults to off when the vehicle is put into reverse. This may be because the interior lights do not turn off when the doors are closed, I believe this is from the lift-gate door light switch, which I need to look at to verify then re-test the park system.
Started the simple task of changing the color of the trim from the Dark Parchment to medium Graphite. My original dash trim is actually black, but has that wood grain trim added to it from the previous owner. I will probably transfer that over too. I will still have a complete spare dash trim from the black 2000. I trimmed the plastic spot welds with an exacto knife, primed with a plastic adhesion promoter, then color sprayed. Re melted the welds, and used a little hot glue.
Ahh, I remember you posted when you picked this donor up. Good find. Lots of parts there. and those wheels! lol, I already drolled over those.
That's a lot of wiring to yank through!
Do I see floor mats on the second and third row?

LOL your ride is as far from lipstick on a pig as any get in here. Stemming from my background in car audio and custom work when I was younger, my absolute favorite thing to see is something that's not OEM or original to the vehicle that is integrated in a way that nobody (or very few) would notice. I love each little add-on, customization, and fix you do, and how you make each piece of the puzzle look original to the vehicle. It's clean and not half-assed, and that's REALLY hard to find.

You do. There are also Weathertech mats in front, and either weathertech or OE in the rest. These are not my color, and will be listed when I clean them up.
I'm cheap too, nearly all of that wiring I pulled back through the way it went in. Good wire is always nice to have on hand.
