Very cool Duster. If I had spare money to throw at this build, I would totally nab one of those ECU's. The dizzy recurv sounds kinda nice too!
Thanks FMJ. She was 87, and an ol farm girl so she had a good life.
Oh god, if it lasts 5 seconds or longer my head might explode. I already have enough sleepless nights LOL.
Thanks! Ugh... unfortunately my '14 F150 5.0 Coyote motor.... 60,000 kms on the clock and the W/P is shot. Bearing is squealing like cat in heat. I'm 99% sure the previous owner fished out the window of the truck in the winter time... so the 60,000 kms on the odometer might be more like 80,000 kms given how much this thing has sat idling.
Oooo good call on the vacuum gauge. I'll put that nifty Crown Vic vacuum tree to use.
Man i hate to hear that, i thoughth the 5.0 was pretty solid so i was surpised to hear. I would be curious as to the hours too, my wife's 17 shows idle and total hours.
Some progress on the weekend. Back hurts from all the up-down, but it was worth it.
Found my issue with installing the motor. Opps lol.
Flexplate nuts installed and torqued to 30 ft-lbs (IIRC.... that number might be a tad high).
Motor put back to 13 BTDC after 2 full rotations (and my finger blew off #1 cylinder). That's the LAST time I'm turning that thing over by hand. Starter installed shortly after
Distributor installed (back on its mark and lined up with #1 Cylinder). Carb installed. Pressure regulator installed. Ign coil installed. Headers mocked up, then installed with Nickel Anti-seize + Stage 8 stainless locking header bolts. Torqued to 22 ft-lbs. Driver side was a HUGE PITA with that dipstick tube and the brake lines and the steering shaft. Had a helper, so it went alright. Still lots of up-down from under the truck to get it all in place.
Passenger side was easy peezee lemony squeezy. Carb installed and other components, including my ign wire set.
Running 285/75R16 tires (~33").
Just barely clear the headers at full lock.
Driver side.
Passenger side.
Lots left to do with brake lines, accessories, and other nick-nacks. Taking my time to make sure I get it all correct. More to come!
good to hear! nice easy fix on the hoist bracket, always nice but frustrating as hell! Looking damned good

I have a picture of how many hours were on the truck with one of the 'trip' meters, but that doesn't encompass the entire life of the vehicle - trip A only. No idea when he reset it.
When I looked at it, it had ALOT of hours on the truck and only 10,000 kms.
I probably doesn't help that I let my truck run for 5-10 minutes in the mornings during winter. This winter was -30 celsius to -40 celsius for 3-4 months straight. The coyote transmission don't like it so much when its that cold and you try driving... lots of hard shifts till it warms up.

Haha you bet it was frustrating. My saving grace was that the bolt was a JUST short enough to come out - otherwise it woulda been so much worse. And thanks! Lots of hard work and planning finally coming together.
She'll run like Killary Clynton does from the truth.
You're killing me here Aaron with the waiting game......!
But better to be safe and take the time to go over things. Try not to kill yourself on this. Has your hair color got more white in it now?
Hahahaha! I hope not! Over the last year, almost everyone has commented that I'm getting "silver" hairs everywhere hahaha. Just what I needed - silver hair to go with my silver POR-15. Oh brother.
Nice weather is headed our way this week. Maybe time to throw it all together and fire it up? We'll see how far I get each night.
EDIT: I've got a buddy with a Go-Pro. I'll let you guys decide for yourself how many cranks she took to fire up
Working out the last-minute details and reviewing everything I've done against my nice big checklist. Also finally switched out the water pump on my 2014 F150 so I had a daily driver again lol.
Also taking the time to set up my buddies go-pro so everyone can watch/comment on the 30 minute cam scrub.

How would you rate the 5.0 waterpump job compared to say a 400 or 5.9 cummins changeout?

Anxious to see the video!!
Never owned a diesel before, but I would say the 5.0 Coyote and the 6.6L (400) are comparable.
It was about a 4 hour job and I did it on the street (this build thread is taking up 2 spots in the garage LOL) - time includes having someone hand me stuff when I needed it (trouble light, mirror, wrenches) so might take longer if no helper is available. The bleeding process wasn't as bad as I expected either - but I've heard of folks having lots of issues bleeding the air out.
I used my LISLE 24680 Spill Free Funnel Kit, plus lifted the front of the truck 2-3" (just suspension, not off the ground) to help air escape. My helper watched the coolant gauge (driver seat) and had the heater blasting hot air while I squeezed the radiator hoses and refilled as necessary. Wasn't that bad.
Funny thing... that Lisle Funnel kit works on both the 1979 F250 and the 2014 F150... Pretty awesome coolant funnel
