I'm not positive but I think the gears go inside the transfer case.
Hope yall get the team back in good running shape soon.
We are already planning on straightening up the roof on the grand cherokee and replacing the windshield with lexan. I've located several transfer cases, just got to confirm if it is a 21 or 23 spline input before picking one up.
Happy Thursday brothers. I ran out of work around 2 o'clock at the shop today, so I finally got the chance to pull the truck in for some much needed diagnostic time. I started with the usual tune up parts, Plugs and wires mostly, the cap and rotor were new already. Sorry to report it didn't help a thing. Plugged into it with the scan tool and what a waist of time. Would have been a shorter list of which codes were not stored. Put her up on the lift and did the ballpeen on the converter trick. Front converter sounded off with a sharp tink, the second converter sounded like I was hitting clay dirt with the hammer. Being it is an '89 I proceeded to cut out the bottom of the converter and took a hammer and a prybar to it, and gutted it. Welded the bottom back on. Ok now the restricted exhaust flow is not permanently fixed but hey, I can put a new converter on when it is more financially convenient. Put it back on its wheels and started the truck. Still surging and cutting off. Pull out the fuel pressure tester, turn the key and pow, straight to 40psi. relay kicks the pump off and the gauge dropped faster than it went up. Went and pulled the vacuum line off the pressure regulator and the dang thing spit out a stream of fuel. I got the truck for $1500 because the previous owners mechanic (He's a Ford guy) couldn't get it running good. I spent $20 on a fuel pressure regulator, Cussed for an hour installing it, Gutted a converter, And spent $26 on plugs and wires. Fellers, I am ecstatic to report that old pick-up truck runs as smooth as a new one right now. Got home and went straight out and put the new FTE decal James gave us on the back glass. Yes sir, I am one happy fat guy.
Standard 5.0. Automatic, power everything, I charged the a/c system this august and its still ice cold. I haven't been driving it much because of the way it runs. During warmer weather all my time and cash goes to jumping on my sled and heading for the mountains. November is here and No trips there now, Still sickened over the fires over there right now, I spent a lot of time there over the last few years, but back to the truck, I been putting off working on it till now. Just letting the group know I got her straightened out. Oops, I answered and went to get a refill on my glass of milk, and forgot to post your answer. Now time to teach you guys a lazy fat guy trick. when I eat the oreos, I stab a fork into the cream slowly and then dip it in the milk. You are welcome. Lol.
Congrats on getting the truck running right
And that's a cool way to go through them Oreos, one I haven't heard before. Wish I had a package of them here.
