Darn RAIN!!! Trying to do the passenger side rear suspension bushings today. Got the wheel off and everything jacked up and secured with stands, loosen up some bolts and the rain starts pouring down Wish I had a decent garage
It comes and goes here, got my truck pulled under the Carport to tinker with it.

And now you know the other use of that Canopy I had up at the car show is. It makes a nice and quick dry spot over the front of the truck and cuts down on the sun if it's just to danged hot.
Bob is right on the intake manifold. Also, if you have it off, may want to call the closest Carquest, see if they can dip-tank it for you. It's the cheap way of getting shiny clean parts to put on the truck (VS buying a new manifold that is).
One of the bushings out of a set of 12 was the WRONG ONE!!!
Called LMC, they get this part# as a set from Prothane so not LMC's fault. They are more than happy to send me a new set, rushed even, good customer service. BUT!!! That part number is out of stock!!!!
I guess it's a good thing I have so many other things to do, I think I'll paint some parts near an open flame in my unventilated small garage

Hey Matt, I have a garage and a workshop, and I still have to work on my truck in the driveway! Too much crap in my garage and truck to big to fit in the workshop. I might get a carport one of these days.
Hey Larry you need one of those little magnets-on-an-antenna-stick-things, it would have helped you a lot in this case (unless the part was aluminum, or plastic).
I have a little project that I've been working on. I'm refinishing an old Maple Rocker. I have most of the old rock hard varnish off of it, and finally getting to the bare wood. Eventually I'll get some stain on it the some good glossy polyurethane on there and be a usable piece of furniture for the front porch
Well I ended up not being able to make a pass last night. Backed the truck off the trailer and smelled fuel, my pressure regulator was squirting fuel EVERYWHERE including the passenger side header. So I loaded it with out turning the pump back on and scratched out before the race even started.
I priced a rebuild kit that's $9.99, or I can buy a brandnew one for $20-25. I'm just going to buy a new one and be done with it.

That stinks you didn't get to run your truck Larry. Along those lines, is there some place you post your races so we can come out and watch? We had fun at the mud run, would love tp bring the boys out to another one some time.
The Next one is October 22nd, it's a Memorial race. Will most likely be alot more, and faster trucks there. Also supposed to have a couple rails that will run high 2 second passes on the flat track. I'll post some info in the next week or so in the event thread.

Cool, I'm already scheduled to be off that weekend. I'll check in on the event thread.
I took the advice of some more knowledgable people and decided to replace rather that try to repair my power steering pump. I looked at the instructions that came with it, I know, shame on me but I'm a rookie so I'm not ashamed, and it says to flush all the old fluid out of the system and mentions using a vacuum pump to check for leaks and to bleed the new unit. I wouldn't say I'm lost, but I don't have this vacuum system. Is this something I might be able to rent, should I buy one, will I need it for other things? Can I do this job without this vacuum system and successfully install by using some other method, perhaps a little redneck ingenuity?

Matt,
That's interesting. Don't think I have ever read the instructiions for a PS pump replacement. Back at the shop we had a machine that would suck the old fluid out and replace it with clean fluid. The main concern here is dirty fluid, and anything that could cause a blockage or damage to the new pump. I'm sure it's happened where the new pump has been damaged by trash (Dirt, Sludge) in the system, and then warrantied. I'm sure that the company just doesn't want to have to warranty the part for something they can not control.
I also have something very similar to a turkey baster to suck out old fluid from a reservoir, one little squirt at a time. You could start with doing that, then determine how dark the fluid is. If i needed to flush a system here, I would probably leave the return line off the reservoir and just start filling the system. Run the engine for a second or two, then add more fluid, continue until I see clean fluid coming out. The hook the return line back up.
Oh and something like a MightyVac comes in useful for a lot of things.
1. single person brake bleeding, though there are fancier units available for this.
2. testing manifold vacuum. Great for timing an old engine.
2. evacuating old fluid, use the same as the brake bleeding procedure.
3. Vacuum testing systems to find air leaks (such as pulling vacuum on an egr valve to verify it is working.
