Thanks for the photos.
You have exactly what I'm trying to get to. The only difference is that your rear xmbr is in the stock orientation. It worked in your situation because of the stock sized F Series rear tank (19-20 gals?)
I've purchased the larger Bronco tank (33 gal) and it extends lower than the xmbers and is supported by a skid plate on the bottom with straps across the top of the take like this
These require the xmbr to be flat on the bottom to receive the bolts.
Now that I am awake and looking at the pictures I think I see why the Bronco tank is not used.
It shows the top of the tank above the frame. On the PU the tank is flush or just below to clear the bed floor.
Think that is why you don't see people using that tank and going with the 38 gallon one.

The f26 tank is the pickup tank that's been made taller, same length/width, The bronco one is shorter "front to back" and would need cross members moved to work. And either tank take up the space for the spare. Lots assume the 38 gallon one is for a bronco one, it doesnt fit in those.
^. Correct
i purchased the Spectra Premium F tank knowing full well that some fiddling was going to be needed to make it fit. Similar to what this guy did.
what I didn’t anticipate was the fact that my truck wasn’t born with the correct xmbrs. You read all the time about how all F150/250 frames from ‘XX-‘XX years are all the same. NOT!
what I’ve found out is that if the truck wasn’t born with a rear tank, Ford saved some money by not installing the front xmbr (F2TZ5036B)
and installed a different xmbr that accommodates the spare tire that sits higher up under the truck.
FYI, I have the complete assembly for anyone that is interested ( the original Firestone spare even still has full pressure in it)
I’ve found a guy up near Richmond, VA that claims to have a few bare frames that I can hack up, but would really like to find similar a little closer to Raleigh.
There's a guy in denton, Keith Sink, he runs a business of selling parts for 80-97 ford trucks and the superduties. Business is F-trucks, he may have some.
Yup, have sent Keith an email. I also have spoken to Tom @ Flaskback F100’s in Reidsville. He says that he probably has some but is headed to Carlisle soon and is kind of scatter brained right now, getting ready for the show.

What did he do about the tank being taller and hitting the pick up bed floor? Or is it not that tall?
If you lower it to clear the bed floor then the filler part will hit the frame.
Kurt do you have any posts that someone has done what you want to do?
I would like to read up on it to see how it was done so I have a little better understanding of it.
On the spare tire setup, you are not going to use it and the spare tire too?
I am looking for a 5 x 5.5 steel wheel for a spare for my truck, think I have everything else.
I would need to check to make sure as I have put it off to the side till I got a wheel and you know how that can go LOL
I just got to thinking I dont know how different the hardware is you have because you did not have a rear tank and I do.
It could just be the bolts are longer if it has a rear tank?
I know I am just full of good news
But would like to see what you have for this tank swap. I can bring my truck so we can see both sides, no rear tank / rear tank, and maybe the light bulb will go off
Dave ----
Great. Thanks Justin. By the looks of it alot of people have not attempted this swap. It will be expensive to fill after it is all done but worth it.
I also have not heard of this being done but it looks like it worked.
After reading the thread you will need the 80 - 86 front cross member and upper strap sand the Bronco tank and skid plate and guessing the sending unit.
Make a new rear cross member to bolt to the frame and the skid plate to.
Sounds easy right

OK hope a day that is light for me and I take the PU in to work but lately they have been putting more work on me and end up with an hour or less of drive time.
I have also worked the last 2 Saturdays but I will make it happen.

Theres an OBS truck i keep seeing on facebook forget what they were wanting for it. Body looked good condition and guessing it could make for a good parts truck for you. Said it ran till the engine bay caught fire.
found the listing. Tried to share the link but wasnt working.
just tell the wifey its a parts vehicle to fix the current one. Cheaper to buy it than the parts individually.
I did that when I bought my flare side and told her just that she was not having it LOL
Now that the truck is done and she seen how much of the parts truck was used she seen the light!
