Official NCFTE Works Thread
There's a lot of New Yorkers here and I'm responsible for several of them. My wife is from NY so I'm responsible for her coming here, and then her parents decided to move here to be near us and their grandkids, and since they were here as well, her sister and her family decided to move down. And because of that, my brother in law's mother, brother, and his wife moved here. So that's like 11 or 12 people! Damn.
It was good meeting your buddies tonight John. Tom won't half bad for a yankee, haha.
Cracked/ rusted old pan and new one
Flux core attempt
I would also be happy with Hobart or Miller units.
The only thing I have read is any of the 3 machines above if bought in a big box store are not the same machines you get from a welding store.
Come time you may need a part for inside them, like a wire driver motor you may have a hard time getting it through a welding store.
My first Lincoln grew legs and walked was from a big box store this 2nd one is from a welding store and because of the deal I bought other goodies, auto helmet, cart, gloves and wire.

My flux core welder, I use 030 or 035 - can't remember which I have in there now. I am like you, sometimes ok for sheet metal, other times I burn a hole. I have always heard using the gas makes it easier and also nicer welds compared to flux core.
Dave you were missed, as Chevy guys outnumbered Ford guys 3 to 2. haha.
I went to a Hobart welding school in Ohio. Very interesting as MIG was just being developed.Dave, if you want to make a road trip....I have a Sun Distributor Machine in NY

Hope everyone is staying safe and off the roads. Snow starting to turn to sleet here in Virginia.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
im sitting in apex at a hotel waiting on instructions from duke on storm Damage assessment. Right across from the waffle house and puryear trucking

I did not have the news on till late and seen some did lose power.
We were lucky not even a flicker here at home.
You were right where I get fuel and the truck / trailer fixed at Puryear.
The yard I park at is just around the corner on Burma at his new yard about 3 years old.
Its where he has the new trucks parked, outfits them, has the body shop and spray booth and a lot more parking.
He also has a shop not far there that rebuilds the trailers.
It was getting the Burma shop dirty and on his play toys so he moved that part out.

Dusty89, I never heard that flux core was better for deep penetrating welds into thick metal, my only understanding was that the flux burning off is meant to replicate the protection that you would normally get from gas. I know 030 is better for sheet metal and 035 is better for thicker stuff. But I honestly couldn't tell you what I have in mine! lol
Right now I have the vacuum advance hooked up and I got to say its running pretty good and almost dont want to pull it apart and maybe not get it back where it is at now.
The weather has been to cold & icy when I had off and did not feel safe getting tools from my garage to the house garage to pull the dist.
I have also been working crazy hours because of the cold and snow. Most places I go to have been really low or out of LP gas.
The thinner the MIG wire the better when welding sheet metal and using gas makes for a better weld.
Now for flux core wire and better welds on the thicker metal my take is you are most likely welding it outside with a little wind.
The wind blows the shielding gas away and the flux core dose not have that problem.
Now if you are welding inside or were there is no wind you can use gas and as long as you use the right size wire and turn up the amps it should weld the thicker metal. I used thin wire as that's what I had, to weld the tubes to the center section on my drag car axle. I also had to brace up the leaf spring mounts so they would not fold up on take offs.

I cant find the right door panels for the slider locks so I think I will fix the ones I have better.
I bought the slider locks and arm rests. I also need to fix the A pillar post trim.
The big thing is the seat. It had a rip when I installed it and it has gotten larger and I see there could be another one starting.
So I will be on the look out for new kit and maybe foam to redo it.
Oh I also got new rear brake cables that someone said working on his truck.
The new ones I installed the Ebrake springs were to long and you could not fit the drums on so I had to cut the springs shorter.
I still think they are to long as the brake really dose not hold but the pedal is solid about half way down.
And I still need to make the last spring change on the dist. and test if better or now.

Now when it come to the Javelin and talking 2K for front & rear seat kits, no foam that I know will be needed, I think I will farm that out.
That hard part is when I get all the needed parts to redo the inside, the weather be good enough to do the work, I dont have work, the shows will be happening
