So I am doing a bunch of maintanance work to the truck today.I smell fuel all the time when I was working arround it. So when I was under the truck and replaced the fuel filter,I noticed the rear tank was wet and the spare tire too. I wipe up the drip and smell it...FUEL. The rear tank is rusted through at the straps. So I have to replace it regaurdless but I had a really good thought. Can a 95 Bronco fullsize tank fit between the rails in the rear of my F-150? I want to hear from someone that has done this not from others who say it is a bad idea. I figure that the trucks suck on fuel consumption,I might as well give it a bigger rear tank.
Let me know since I am looking to find the skidplate, hangers and fuel tank for my truck.
Yes it can and will. I bronco tank is shorter front to back but deeper, so you'll have to move the spare. This is what I did. You'll need the pump and associated parts from a donor bronco to fit into tank and the skid plate. I used a piece of angle iron for a new x-member since it's shorter. Here are some pics, (I had the bed off for frame repairs but, I don't think it's nessicary to do the swap).
Sweet. Thanks you very muchTomanjbo. I am not worried about the spare tire at all So the skid plate will have to have spacers to keep the tank from going into the truck bed? Does the rear tank on a F-150 have these upper fuel tanks straps or did you just flip the original F-150 tank straps?
Thanks for the info.I really appreciate it.
EDIT:: Oh wait.it looks like the frame rises at the front of the tank.So the rear skid plate will bolt on the new cross member but the front will have to be spaced for the rise in the frame. Am I right?
Thanks again.

Great. I can't find anything used in Alberta,so I am buying a new tank, fuel pump, sending unit and skid plate(Yes Ford still has them new). The weather is so cold right now so I will have to do it this weekend. I think I will weld the bolts to the crossmember once it is all fitted up.That way removal will be easier in the future.
The upper straps you see are the new uppers for the stock tank. I used these to guarentee that the tank didn't go up and interfere with the bed. If I remember correctly I matched the skid plate up to the front crossmember and drilled holes into it. I then fabricated the rear x-member much the same way. The tank basicly is cradled by the skid plate, it nests nicely, but is against the front x-member. I then fitted the tank in to see how long the bolts would be to attach the skid plate with the tank in. I think they are 3.5" long.
** You will still need the part that attaches to the tank. It is metal with metal piping and the connector and wires for pump & sending unit are attached. The sending unit doesn't come with it, the pump and sender attaches to it. This I had to get at a bone-yard when you get it have them get you the pigtail for it with 6-8" of leads. Then match the wires up from the inside of the old to the new. The connector is probally going to be different it was on mine, even though they were from the same year trucks ('92 F150 & '92 Bronco).
Have fun!
Justin
