Sounds like me lol this all started with a dash swap.
So i got a crap load done yesturday! I got the Trans cooler, PS cooler, condenser and radiator removed! As well as I hung the Ex tank just need to drill a few holes and bolt it up and installed my Maghytec Cover.
Pics!
draining the radiator took about a half hour of carefully manuvering it and unbolting everything:
Afterwards...the 5.4l is so tiny i never realized how small the motor was i never saw it from n the front only the top from above the fenders.
I made a mistake and ordered two 3' steel bars instead of 6' ones but! the 3' bar fits perfectly between the frame rails so i just could rest it in place and hang the ex tank to line it all up and bolt it in!
Diff Cover swap:
Should have the motor ready to be pulled by this weekend, i am going to finish disconnecting everything then i will have to buy an engine hoist lol. Once it's pulled i will POR the frame in the engine bay area maybe sound deaden the firewall...maybe...and then get the motor painted together and get her in for a test fit!
Yeah i got home and i just went to work lol, I'm hoping to have it out in a few weeks by mid September. I am on travel again next week until Thursday so i may take Friday off since i get in at 4am Friday morning and just work on the truck and get her completely ready to pull so i can buy a hoist and get her out once i take it home.
I'm still up in the air i think i want to pull the assembly but i want to split the T case off since i need it. I already found a potential buyer for the motor and he may want the transmission once it's out. one of my friends friends on Facebook messaged me lol.
Yeah sure thing, I was contemplating it but in all honesty i dont want to do another effort like this for a little while lol. I am going to try and get married and buy a house in the next year or so, the misses might not be too happy if i get one truck together and then rip apart the other one lol. I think i may go for a 351 or 460 swap into it instead or even a 4bt. I kinda want to make it a trail truck with cut out flares and a small lift to fit large tires. I might even ditch the stick for a dodge auto and transfer case since its all manual and i wouldn't need much. I could mount up a 47rh which is an auto that doesnt have a computer and i can get a dodge transfer case and just run the shifter into the cab. It would be up and running quicker than the 5.4l coul dbe with all the electronics i have. PLus i can take the stock turbo off the 12v and throw it on the 4bt giving me a reason to get a bigger turbo for the 12v lol.
You guys have any idea where you hook these motors up to pull them? I have just about everything disconnected from the motor minus one hose in the back so I need to prep it to be pulled now.
I took the intake off so i could get down to the block. If you are pulling with trans then take one bolt out of trans and put the bolt through a piece of chain and back into the mount then take a bolt off the front like the ac bracket and do the same so you cross the engine and pull from the chain.
I wanted to pull them together so i could get it all out at once but i am thinking of separating them for the sake of storing them in the garage because it will be too long to keep them together and tuck them away somewhere. also i am not sure if the person who wants my engine wants the tranny yet so i may as well separate them for now.
I guess i will pull the intake and just use those bolt holes then?
Gentlemen orders a bunch of pets today that will come in next week for when I return from travel for work.
I ordered the following:
Sae 3 trans adapter
Trans adapter bolt kit
Saw 3 flywheel
Flywheel bolt kit
3200 gov spring
Two new breather valve covers
A stock 6.0 intercooler (will be replaced one day with a one piece aluminum on but it was cheap)
An intake horn with 3 1/8 not bungs for boost gauge and water/meth injection
Also my traction bars should be in at about the same timeframe, next will be the airdog!
I've never heard of those pets.... are you sure you ordered from a pet store. I am use to seeing things like dogs, cats, snakes, iguanas, fish, and parrots
It can come out all in one piece, even with the tcase. I helped Andrew with his, it was a Bi%7@h to move around after. But having the tcase off would make it easier.
I may just pull it all including the case because I need to mount it to the Allison regardless before I put it in and that will make it easier.
For the 5.4l it looks like there is a radiator hose that goes to the intake in the back how do you remove it? I was thinking the intake has to come off regardless? I would snap a pic but I'm in Colorado waiting to catch my flight home to Boston lol.
