Hey, new Ford truck owner here. Just picked up an N600 yesterday. Wondering if I could get some help decoding the VIN tag. Here are the numbers:
N60CU809778
199 H N602 KD81 A 64
20000 164 3800 35
It is a grain truck with a dump bed. From what I can tell all original. Drove it home about 60 miles yesterday and so far so good. Looks like I need to replace the front seal on the rear end as it was leaking.
Hey, new Ford truck owner here. Just picked up an N600 yesterday. Wondering if I could get some help decoding the Warranty Plate:
N60CU809778 // WB: 199 / COLOR: H / MODEL: N602 / BODY: KD81 / TRANS: A / AXLE: 64 / MAX GVW LBS: 20000 / CERT NET HP: 164 / RPM: 3800 / DSO: 35

Looks like I need to replace the front (pinion) seal on the rear end as it was leaking.
Welcome to FTE
Compare the VIN on the Warranty Plate to the VIN on the registration/title to see if they match. Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch.
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
VIN: Are you sure this is an 8 and not a B? If it's a B, it's a 1967. The COLOR code is suspect, the truck is Holly Green which is COLOR code L .. but the COLOR code you posted is H = Sahara Beige.
The BODY code is also suspect, as there's no KD
N60 = N600 (gas).
C = 330 2V Medium Duty FT engine.
U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.
809778 = 1966. ??
199" Wheelbase.
H = Sahara Beige. ??
N602 = N600 (gas), 20000 lbs. GVWR
KD81: KD This is the color of the seat, bur there's no such thing as KD for 1966 or 1967. Please look at it again or post a pic of the Warranty Plate.
A = New Process 435 4 Speed Manual Transmission.
64 = Timken model F106N Single Speed Rear Axle / 6.80-1 / 15,000 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
20,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
164 net HP @ 3,800 RPM
35 = Lansing MI Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
I would give you the part number for the pinion seal, but want to make sure this decode (Timken axle) is correct before I do so.
Thank you for the info so far! Ok, attached is a picture of the warranty tag. It appears something has been changed over the years in this truck. The title matches the VIN on the tag on the door. I was looking under the hood and I see a beige color under the green paint on the hood, so it may have been the H color code. It it was someone did a good job in the color change as the door jams, dash, floors, and such are all green. But the rear is a 2 speed rear. So not sure if the tag was swapped at some point, or if the rear was swapped. If the rear was swapped it must have been a LONG time ago as the rust, etc on it looks to be about the same as the rest of the truck, bolts included. Any other clues to look for that might help decipher this some more?
As for the seal on the rear, how can I identify this rear better to find the seal? I have attached a couple of pics of the rear if that helps.
Thanks,

Truck was originally Sahara Beige, it was repainted green. The dead bang give-away is the green Warranty Plate. These were never painted by Ford.
The rear axle was swapped, AXLE code 64 on the Warranty Plate is a Timken model F106N single speed.
The rear axle was most likely swapped from a similar truck. It's probably an Eaton model 15201 two speed.
Two speeds have a red button attached to the shift lever to change ratios.
See the parts catalog pic used to ID rear axles, get whatever info off it and post it.
So did some more looking tonight and found more areas of beige so it is looking like it was original beige. As for the rear end. It does have the 2 speed push/pull switch on the shifter. Looking at those diagrams, it has a welded cover like the Rockwell/Timken, but it has a fill plug in it like the Eaton. I do not see an ID tag anywhere. I did find some numbers cast in the bottom of the carrier unit:
2162889
2438826
They are hard to make out but I believe those are the numbers
Google "eaton axle identification" and you will find PDF documents from Eaton/Spicer that show where all the numbers are, as well as a list of numbers telling you more about the axle. The one that gets right to it and has older axle numbers is the first up when I do that search, and it reads like so: Eaton Axle and Brake Service Manual. 2-Speed and Double … (You can't just click on that, you have to pull up the whole thing via your own search)
once you click on your results, you'll see where all the numbers are etc.
Are you familiar with the 2 speed when to shift, when NOT to shift, how, why, etc? I can find you Eaton videos.
I have a 82 F 600 that has a piece of speedometer cable broken off in the speedometer gear in the transmission. How do I remove the speedometer gear assembly from the transmission so I can get the piece of cable out?

What transmission does your truck have, New Process 435 4 speed or one of the Clark 5 speeds?

Ok back at it with this truck tonight, took the carb apart and cleaned it, was not too bad but found some junk in the main jets. Put it back on and it will idle without the choke now, but still run's rough about mid RPM without the choke. Pull the choke on and it smooths out, so it is something carb related. Someone before me gutted the governor from under the carb. I see no linkage hooked up, and they removed the butterflies from it. Not sure if that could have some effect on it or not.
As for the rear end, I need to get a front seal as it is leaking badly. But I am having problems identifying it. I found the Eaton ID article mentioned, but while it looks a lot like the book, I cannot find any numbers to match. There is a number stamped on the top of the diff, E73P and there are some numbers cast on the bottom of the diff 2182889 and under that 2438820. Above both of those it says pat pending. The rear cover is welded on, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the diff, and about 3/4 up on the back side of the case. I have not found any other numbers. Any more guidance you might have? I will attach a few more pics.
As for the shifting, I was somewhat familiar on the how to, and then I found the eaton videos on youtube and it helped explain even more. While I have not done it much yet, I think I understand the concept.
I'm new to this forum, but after reading through the messages it appears to me that NumberDummy has most if not all the answers, so I'm wondering if you would be so kind as to tell me what you can about this truck from decoding the VIN??? We are trying to find parts for it but everything we order is not right, leading us to believe the information we have is incorrect. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I have a 82 F 600 with a 4 speed transmission that has a piece of speedometer cable in the speedometer gear assembly in the transmission. How do I remove the gear assembly from the transmission so I can get the piece of cable out?
