Whew, spent awhile browsing through this post. I just picked up a 1986 LTL9000? Ford Dump Truck. Bill, If you could decode the VIN I'd appreciate it. I am wanting to pick up service manuals/ parts manuals. Right now it has a 300 cummins, but the previous owner said he threw that in it used after the original cummins started having issues. I also am wondering if it is an eaton 9 speed. I need to get the gauges hooked up. speedo, tac, temperature gauges are all out.
1FDYA92W4GVA20833 this is the VIN on the title.
Thanks
Robert

What where the numbers on the Eaton tag.
It's odd the the Cummins NTC350 and NTC400 are not listed.
I had a 86 LTL-9000 with a Big Cam III NTC400 and Eaton RTO14613, 13 spd OD trans

There's no Eaton transmissions listed for these trucks, only Clark, Fuller, New Process, Rockwell, Spicer and Warner.
Because there's no Eaton and the original purchaser wanted one, the truck was sent out after it left the assembly line to have it installed.
This makes the truck a Domestic Special Order, because this would have been the only way to discover what trans it had and where the parts could be found.
