1978 C/CT800/900 & F800 & L/LN/LNT/LT/LTS800/900 477/534 from serial number BE5001 // Ditto 1979/81 C/CT800/900 & F800 & L/LN/LNT/LT/LTS800/900 477/534.

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any, none on ebay.

Bill, thanks for your knowledge!

I'm looking at a 1969 N750.
N75fue93946

144 C N750 4C81 S E
22500 199 3800 330429

The truck has a splitter mounted on the gear shift for a 2-speed rear, but I don't see a code for it? Verified with owner it has a 2-speed rear.

N750 (gas), 22500 lbs. GVWR

4C81: 4C = Black all Vinyl / 81 = 81A Standard Cab.

S = Dana/Spicer model 5756-B 5 Speed Direct.

22,500 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

330429:

33 = Detroit MI Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

0429 = Domestic Special Order number, truck ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

*AXLE code contains three digits, the first two refer to the rear axle, the 3rd refers to the front axle.

The first two digits were omitted because the rear axle was a Domestic Special Order, truck was sent out by FoMoCo after it left the assembly line to have the special rear axle installed.

You'll have to investigate to find out what rear axle it is, because FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the DSO records decades ago.

1968 C-600 Series?

I am trying to figure out if the VIN shown on registration papers is for 1968 model or for different later model year. The VIN is C61DUD15660.

The registration papers say it is 1968 model. An online VIN decoder says it was manufactured in 1976. The "rating plate" is long gone. Everything on top of the chassis is specially constructed.

What year was it manufactured?

C61 = C600 (gas).

D = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine.

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

D15660 = 1968.

1968 serial number range (except Econoline): C00,001-D82,000
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1976 VIN: C61DVD15660

C61 = C600 2WD

D = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

D15660 = 1976

1976 serial number range: A10,001-D25000.
-------------------------------------------------
So you can see that the last 6 digits of the VIN can decode to 1968 or 1976.

But there's another way the VIN decodes to one or the other.

1953 thru circa 1968: 500 and larger series trucks were assembled at multiple assembly plants across the US that also assembled light trucks and cars.

Circa 1969, all 500 and larger series trucks were assembled at the Kentucky Truck plant (V assembly plant code). No cars or light trucks were assembled at this plant.

Since your truck has a U assembly plant code, it's not a 1976.

Here's a pic of the radiator, where's the switch?

I found one on the block (in another pic).

Bill,

Not a switch per-say but a screw in temp sensor. It's the outlet in between the two hoses on the top.

I believe according to your diagram it would be 375903 ( 11-191-AC ) however now I'm wondering / second guessing because the sensor just screws into the rad, then the wire I believe just goes to the gauge but the diagram is showing things like 2344 & *8A366 and further out 353652-5 ( 11-4 ) & 8287 which doesn't seem right and or what I have.

I'm wondering if its an aftermarket temp sensor.

Bill,

Is there also any diagram you can show me that reveals the gauge and where that sensor goes to once it leaves the engine bay and goes to the dash / gauge?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Michael

Most of the sensors in the radiators on big rigs where used for low coolant level warnings, operating a fan clutch or shutters in front of the radiator.
Post a photo of this sensor and it's location.

Unfortunately I can't do that as of right now, the radiator is out being re-cored.

However it was screwed in right in between the top two rad hoses. Pretty much right where if you're looking at the diagram where it shows # 375903-S ( 11-191-AC ) is indicated it goes.

If you enlarge the pic (click on it twice), you'll see it's a nipple. Standard numbers (6 numbers with an S suffix) are hardware related, nuts, bolts, clips etc.

The only sensor I could find is on the engine.
