Went to an RV show yesterday. We are hoping to become full timers in a few years so we started looking. We like a Grand Designs 5th wheel but can't pull it with the Ex. I have decided we will ne a F-450 and my dealer has 2 in stock we like. Too bad we are not ready to take the F450 80K plunge. She and I decided that the Ex isn't going anywhere even if we got a new truck.
Which campground? We love Starve Hollow in Seymour and Brown County SP.
Yeah, last time we drove by it is well posted that you can't enter there.
We stayed at Hardin Ridge, national forest cg. Some sites have nothing, many with electric, and some with electric and water. Most sites were well separated by vegetation and distance. Real quiet in there, even on the weekend when it was pretty full. We will be back sometime.
Passed Brown County SP on the way home, but did not stop to investigate.
Plus, a 35' 5th wheel plus dolly plus Excursion would be over length in most states.
Those dollies do not pivot behind the tow vehicle, the hitch mounts to the tow rig in either two or three points and the axle passively steers. I have actually looked into them a good bit. Backing with them isn't too bad other having the tow rigs effective wheelbase extended which does require more room to maneuver, something that many CGs don't offer much of to start with. And you are correct about the length, would be over in many places just like my current TT and EX is (and I think maybe even your combo too), NJ, where I bought my TT is 55' max and I'm at 61' without the bikes on the rear of the TT.
Our retirement plans still include a big DP Class A and enclosed trailer for toad and toys, but our travel buddies are in the middle of transitioning from their 40' Class A into a new 38' fiver and F-350, which has caused us some thought........

The Class A's don't seem to have as much room as the 5ers do. Grand Designs seems to be the best built and is designed for full timers. I want 4 season camping and they offer it.
A gas Class A is equivalent in cost to a F-450 and a 5th wheel combined. The main difference is do you want to have a Toad or are you satisfied driving the truck everywhere.
Never got around to posting these, but I went out with a buddy into our local mountains about a week ago and had the whole place to ourselves for 3 days. Got below freezing each night, but that only made the coffee and firepit feel better each morning! Camped about 7500ft elevation, took the fishing gear, but it never made it out. That campfire just felt too good! Brought along the ATV w/chainsaw and had more wood than needed. Left a pile for the next family. Heading out again this coming weekend. I'm DJing a wedding for a co-worker and we're all camping/glamping out for the event. This will be even higher up the mountain and on the other side, so expecting even more snow than the last trip out. A few pics....
Also DJ'd my boys homecoming dance over the same weekend. Was the first time in years their school held one because of poor turnout. All I can say is that the smoke machine, lasers, moving lights and enough sound to rattle the walls make the teenagers crawl out of their hiding places! Their HS has about 60 students and about 40 of them came to the dance that night. Nice to see the kids have fun without getting into any trouble.
