Sitting here in Myrtle Beach State Park. Drove down yesterday, the Ex pulled great and even with the crosswinds the ProPride allowed for an easy drive.
We were in the camper and all of a sudden our fireplace beeps, it is turned off. The display was going crazy. We kicked the breaker off and an a couple of times. Thinking the thing has gone bad I tried to call the manufacturer, no answer. I then heard a charging cell phone beep. I went out and moved from my 50 AMP outlet and connected to the 30 AMP, everything started working again. The Ranger came by and he said that the site has been giving trouble and they nee to run a new wire underground. I told him that 30 AMP is no problem since I don't need both A/Cs but by not letting me know I could have blown my electrics. I am now looking into getting a surge protector/filter.
I just installed an hardwired surge protector this week by Progressive industries EMS-HW30C, they make several models, including 30/50A, I preferred the in-line instead of the dog bone style. So far I'm happy with it, I've already put it to the test here at home.
I think the hardwired units are the only way to go, you don't have to remember to add them to the power cord at hookups and nobody can walk off with them and of course they are protected from the weather too.
If I have a hardwired 50A and connect to a 30A does the unit still protect? I live near Morrisville, NC and have emailed the company if they have a factory store.
I have the 30 AMP plug in unit, originally purchased while we still had our previous unit. I understand the concerns with theft, etc. I don't have the greatest electrical skills and opted for the convenience that the plug-in gave me. We camped at a Yogi Bear location in Sturbridge, MA and the family behind me lost their refrigerator to when a transformer failed and sent a surge through the system. Some people claim they are unnecessary and over priced, but I gladly invested in the comfort that my electronics will be protected.
Pulled the TT home from Myrtle Beach yesterday, the Ex pulled great but for the last 100 miles I fought a crosswind that pushed the rig, the ProPride helped but I still got blown around.
On the 19th I'll be pulling into Ripplin Waters campsite, on West Prong Little Pigeon River. The forecast is for it to be cold, rain, maybe a little snow.
Took off from Miami on the 15th and before I made it to West Palm Beach I had 1 tire blow and the other three go out of round with steel belts starting to stick out. 3 y/o Chinese tires. It was an emergency and all the local Walmart had was the Goodyear Marathon trailer tires. At least I got them in the 225 series and after a lot of complaining, I got $15 off each tire as Walmart has discontinued them. I then continued to Virginia and from there to Sevierville Tn (Ripplin Waters RV park) and then back home. This was 2408 miles and no problems with the tires. I to have stem mounted TPMS one each tire and did adjust the air pressure to keep them from 58-68 PSI for the entire trip. The car trailer did sway a little when I was being passed by trucks, so on my trip back south I moved the car forward in the trailer about 4" and that reduced the sway. The trailer and EX still moved when the semi's came up from behind but the swaying was almost gone.
Ripplin Waters RV park had just been totally flooded two weeks before when the river overflowed its bank. They were busy replacing wiring and sewage but had many sites already up and running. I lost power one night, and it was down in the 30's, thought I had blown my 30A power. Turns out somehow my ground fault on the 1st outlet had tripped, and every other outlet downstream was then off as well. My other circuit was at the rear of the trailer and I did not even think of trying it. Yes, moving the car all the way to the back of the 24' trailer allowed me to set up my just over 6' cot in the front.
The event was a 4 day Mustang/Ford show. 2 days driving around on Poker runs, track events, and 2 days of show. I had fun driving around on the Poker run, going to the drag strip, and then winning a top 20 award with over 600 cars in the show field.
Sounds like a fun car show/drive week Shelby and congrats on the top 20 win!
I'm not surprised about your ST tire issues, I've been there and done that a few times. My most recent adventure was with a pair on our TT that were only 2 years and 50 weeks old that were pressure checked prior to every trip, always covered when parked at home and monitored via a TPMS, those CHEAP Chinese ST tires are just plain junk.
What is the build date for the marathons that you bought? Just curious if they are no longer carried by Walmart how long they have been sitting in their inventory.
Kings Mountain was a nice park, I'll definitely return.
I would love to go there but if I do and my boss finds out I will be asked to work. We have a new Data Center going in at Kings Mountain and being I am a Senior on the Data Center Team.........

The park is Huge.! I mainly stayed at my site, walked the dogs, and vegetated. The Dobe is going on 8.5, still a monster, the Lab mix will be 15 next month, so she is limited to her hiking abilities due to muscle atrophy. I'll definitely book again soon.
