Huh, while it's not necessarily widespread or commonplace, it's not unusual to see people cooking using a campfire out west. We do it all the time when we're at Lower Pines in Yosemite and we are not the only ones during the week we're there.

Cooking in the trailer is a great way to make it stink. Best cooking is done on the bbq or open fire. Best stuff ever is hamburgers wrapped up in tinfoil, salted, buttered, and with carrots, onions, and potatos and left on the coals. Why go camping if you're not going to have a fire and use a fire. Lame to say the least.

Ain't nuthin' better than a brat cooked over the campfire with an ice cold Corona. Seems to me they were meant for each other!

Funny you mention the full water tanks...I as a general rule tow full as well. It definitely gives a better more stable feel going down the road. I attributed it to a lower center of gravity, but now I'm thinking it may have something to do with the weight distribution as well.

I think this discussion is giving me some ideas to improve my towing experience...

Where we're from those are called "Hobo Dinners" and are a staple of every camping trip. A quick hint for preparation...rather than wrap everything in aluminum foil, use a 1 pound disposable aluminum bread pan and cover it with foil. Less leaks while cooking and easier to prepare!!

I always tow with all 4 water tanks empty, they are all forward of the trailer axles and the 1840lb tongue weight is heavy enough without the water!
We cook evertywhere, a little on the fire, mostly on a gas grille, either the big one for larger groups or the smaller one for just us and another couple and even inside on the stove top and oven. We have never had any lingering odors inside from cooking inside, same as at home, only smell the food while it cooking and right after, nothing hangs around past eating time.

Made it out to dump the tanks last night. I have to say I'm impressed with the GEO method to this point. The black tank sensors finally show empty, and the debis coming from the grey tank was absolutely disgusting. I swear someone used the grey tank as a used cooking oil disposal. The black tank was fairly clean on draining but there were chunks of black debris releasing from the grey tank. Will fill the grey tank before we take the TT to our Kentucky property this weekend and let that sloshing help clean it even more.

Well, I'm FULLY committed to Corona when camping, but at home.......I grab anything that's available. I'm picky when I go camping because that's the only time I get to have exactly what I want, when I want. I'm the one who preps the trailer, drives us to the destination, sets up camp, buys the groceries preps all the food at home, and does all of the cooking when camping. So I better be "compensated" for my time and talents over an open fire. Besides, I'm FULLY addicted to the flavor combination of a jalapeno-cheesy brat and Corona.

We did Thanksgiving in the TT last year for 6 of us and yes, the stove can handle a turkey. Confession: we bought a precooked turkey dinner from Publix but it did require a couple of hours of heating.

Can't say I blame you there. More of a Miller guy myself though.

Yep. Miller High Life. Camping beer. I have a can in the trailer now. ( I don't drink much. A six pack lasts me months, but when I do, it's Miller High Life. Stay thirsty my friends.)
