According to Ford, the current logo is PMS 294C (Pantone Matching System).
I took my Pantone Color Chart out to my truck and matched the 294C swatch to the blue on the 61 year old radio cover. It is an exact match! I was surprised.
You're welcome. And if you find some paint in that color, will you let me know where you got it. I need to paint my hood front and side emblems. Thanks
Dick Blick art supplies carries One Shot enamels online and in their stores. They will send you a free color chart. Most printers have a set of panatone color match system swatches as do some art supply stores. Compare their #294C swatch to the blues in the one shot color chart.
This is a little off topic but I can't believe this badge showed up on ebay last night.
Most everybody that is following this thread knows that my grandfather worked on the Chicago Fire Patrol. Well, when the World's Fair was held in Chicago in 1933 & 34, they needed a fire department to protect the newly erected buildings and for the millions of visitors that were estimated to attend. So they used members from the Fire Patrol to man the Fire Department. My grandfather was selected from the Patrol to be 1 of 2 Lieutenants needed. No one has ever seen what the Lieutenant badge looked like before now. I have been searching ebay since 1997 trying to locate these badges, always hoping they were still around after all these years.
Its a 50/50 chance it could be his!! The 1933 style badge was changed to a different style in 1934. This is more rare than my fire patrol bell that I bought last year. The person in IL has both style badges for sale. Somehow I have to try and pick these up even if I have to sell some other Fire Patrol badges I own.
Be sure to use a sniping software to place a last minute bid for you. I use Gixen, it's free and dependable. Just set you max bid as high as you would possibly be willing to pay. The software will only bid as high as necessary to win it.
That's like finding a needle in a haystack. Have you thought about contacting the seller and telling him about your story, including the fire truck restoration? Perhaps offer the max you're willing to pay for both and have him pull the auction? Maybe he's a kind enough guy to see the history in this and not after the money.
Keith,
Once again, thats a fantastic bit of history. I'd take Ilya's advice and contact the seller, explain the situation to him. Who knows, maybe you could come to some kind of agreement about the badges.

Good luck, I hope you get them

I second that! Could even see if he was willing to trade for one your willing to get rid of... My fingers are crossed!
AX - I have never used the sniping software and would be afraid of screwing it up and not getting the badge. I will check it out tho thanks.
Guys I contacted the seller as soon as I saw the badges. The owner has it consigned with a ebay seller who said the owner will not end the auction early
I really don't have the $$$$ right now for this. I estimate the badges to go around a grand each. I know a lot of bread... You have two different collectors interested in these badges ... Century of Progress and Fire Dept so the bidding will be strong.
Ax that is awesome, I have never heard of anything like that. Thanks. Reps to ya if they will let me.
Edit: Someone give Ax a rep for me. I got to spread some luv around.
Really hadn't heard of sniping software? It's the only way I bid on ebay, used to be it practically guaranteed you to win the auction at the lowest possible price unless someone placed a bid above your max before the end of the auction. Today it sometimes comes to a battle of the snipes! I especially like that you can change your max bid up to a couple minutes before the end of the auction or cancel it entirely if you change your mind or find another. The free version of Gixen bids 10 sec before end of auction, a small yearly fee version will bid 3 sec before end from 2 mirror sites.
It's pretty difficult to mess up a snipe bid. After signing up for the software, you give them your ebay user name and password. You place a snipe by pulling up the place bid screen and putting in the ebay item #. It will check that you have suplied the right # by pulling up the item description. You then place in the box the maximum bid you are willing to pay. That's it, the software will confirm your item and maximum bid. Unlike placing a bid directly, your bid does not appear until it is too late for someone to overbid you, no one even knows you plan to bid. The software will place only the minimum bid required to win the auction no matter what your max is.
If you want the badge, I'd go ahead and place a snipe for the max you can spend. If you are outbid, it doesn't cost you anything and you might get lucky.
