Wow!! How Cool is that? Way to go Keith. That's two celebs that have meet your
truck now. Who's next? Jessie James or maybe Chip Foose to make ya some custom wheels and maybe the famous Foose paint fade?
I was out at the truck yesterday and removed the carb fitting, put new yellow teflon tape and tried to tighten it. It wouldn't tighten all the way. The treads inside the carb are screwed up. I gave Chuck from Chuck's truck a call and he recommended calling Loctite to see if they have a product that will seal the fitting. They said any of their epoxys when cured will resist gas/alcohol. I need to check the curing time. If I do it tomorrow I may be Ok to make the show on Sunday.
(that is if you can get the fuel leak fixed) Way back when I was wrenching on a regular basis it wasn't uncommon to see the old Quadrajet carbs fixed with JB Weld. Heck, we used to use a standard 2 part epoxy to seal the well plugs on those old Quadrajets. I think 3M made the stuff we used.
Bummer!! Epoxied the carb fitting yesterday. We out this morning to check it and hopefully bring it to the show. It was leaking pretty bad so I can't show it to Barris. I am still going to the show and will get some pics and an autograph. I should of done the repair earlier in the week.
NAPA sells repair fittings with oversize threads. Clean out the epoxy and tape, and try one of them. But I can't find a good listing on-line, you will have to find a guy willing to go to the paper catalogs: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...275_0006521244
Should be similar...
I found this in my notes from the flathead forum, but I'm not sure if it is referring to a Stromberg carb or Holley:
"The answer to the leaking fuel line fitting problem is as close as your local NAPA store. Ask for p/n 2-93, it is a repair fitting that will cut it's own thread and convert's to a AN type seat, the line nut that screws into it is p/n 105-5 for 5/16 fuel line.
The fitting cost $6.63 and the nut was 13 cents. "
