Thanks Rich. Gerald, the man who is helping me, is the vice president of the FT Lauderdale fire museum and he wants to display there when we are finished.
Thanks Joe!! I was wondering when someone was going to notice the GMC. Yes, I'm one of those darksider types although I have owned my first Ford for nearly 6 years now. My Dad has always owned Fords. He still has his 86 F100 that he bought new. Merry Christmas!!
Keith,
I've had a 93 GMC Suburban for years. I love the truck.
Thats great that the truck will be on display for others to enjoy instead of being locked away in a garage somewhere.
Ilya, The museum is 15 minutes from where I live. Once its done, I will still keep it at the barn for a while. I want easy access to it.
Bobby, I agree with what your saying. I want people to see it and not have it stashed away in a barn.
Joe, Its a nice 2 bay museum. Did you see both rigs in front of the bay doors? The 28 Arens-Fox was old Chicago engine 10 and as I mentioned many pages back in this thread, it was bought back by the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago. The other truck is a early 40's Ford that was an original Fort Lauderdale Fire Dept piece.
The thing about this thread of yours that differs from most I follow is that when I see YOU are the last to post on it, I immediately jump on it. That's because I'm expecting to see more marvelous progress on your beautiful truck instead of ramblings like mine and others.
As far as the museum storage is concerned, I can't think of a better idea to allow the general public to see what you've accomplished. When you are finished, this will be a show piece. And I'm going to look for it next time we're in Ft. Lauderdale (we've embarked on several Caribbean cruises from there). We'll just go in a day early. I'll let you know in advance, because I WANT MY RIDE!!!
I guess you've figured out that I think you are doing a wonderful job...
Hi Guys Happy New Year! I hope everyone's holidays were good. I am starting back tomorrow but I wanted to mention I had my first FTE member visit yesterday. Denny (firstrider) was in the area and he stopped by to see the truck. We had a nice visit and I enjoyed showing him the truck. We will be working on the brakes tomorrow. The booster and master cylinder will be coming out. I want to get the mechanical issues corrected so I can finally start driving the old gal again.
Keith deserves a large bucket of extra credit for undertaking that project .WOW !! Talk about 2 1/2 tons of alot of work . Had a very pleasent vist / talk with him sun aft.Was interesting to see his level of excitement rise in his conversation & step when explaining his truck . Please keep up the awesome work .
Denny next visit will be for a ride Thanks again for swinging by.
We got the master cylinder and booster out today. The fitting on the brake line leading to the front was rusted and broke off so we will have to run a new one .... no big deal. The booster was heavy because it had a half gallon of brake fluid in it. I guess the check valve went bad allowing fluid in to the booster. I am taking it and the shop manual to the brake rebuilders tomorrow. I am going to pick up a new master cylinder too. We got the choke and speedo cables hooked up, put on a door trim piece, installed the radio and found a perfect place for the phone cradle to hang. Moving along!!
Good luck with the brakes. Have you considered upgrading the mastery cylinder and/or MC and booster combo? I know it wouldn't be all original then, but it might make it safer and more reliable as a driver. A hard decision to make....
