Finally got the correct belt for the siren yesterday. It took 4 trips to local auto parts stores. NAPA had it. It’s tough to find v-belts today as all the new vehicles have the serpentine variety. I installed it and the noise came back. The bearings were definitely the problem. NAPA didn't have the bearings so I went back where I bought the bearings 7 years ago. Of course they didn't have them in stock so I have to come back in a few days. I am having the truck in a parade this Saturday and I wanted to have the siren fixed. I left the belt on for now. No one will notice the noise.
I can't believe it will be a year since Ron drove us in the parade. I will be thinking about him!! This year I will be promoting my son's Taekwondo school. (they are both brown belts now) So we will have kids in front, inside and behind the truck. I am thinking of having the announcer say something about Ron after they announce the school. Something like .... The original driver ofthis truck was here last year has passed but he said driving the truck in last year’s parade was one of the happiest days of his life!!
I've been so stressed lately. My Dad is not doing well and just went in a nursing home and I still have not found a place for the truck. All my leads have fallen through. The deadline is the end of next month.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My prayers to you and yours and may the transition not be too bad for him and for you.
As long as you have new bearings on order I'd go ahead and let the sirens wail for the parade this weekend. The old truck is gorgeous but still, in a parade you HAVE to have a siren.
I still have my fingers crossed that you will find a storage solution

Thanks Bobby!! The parade is tomorrow and the siren is a go!! Although a bit noisy and no one will know the difference. Dad is going better. I just hate to see him in a nursing home but he is getting better care then my step-mom was able to give him.
I was driving around today and may have found a potential site. I stopped by a house and spoke to the owner. He was receptive to me storing the truck there. He did say the area floods and I would have to put some gravel down to level the area. Good location and easy access to the building. The downsides are: not full enclosed, can be seen from the road. He said the area is safe and he has some big dogs on the property. I could add some aluminum siding and put some sort of hanging cover the block the view. I definitely would not keep it there during a hurricane. He asked what I would be willing to pay and I told him what I was paying at the barn. He still wanted to check with his wife. I still think the other property may be better because I wouldn't have to pay rent although I would have to put up a metal building. Here are some pics of the place:

That does look promising, but you'd still have to modify it to suit your needs, i.e. gravel, additional siding, doors, etc. How much time, labor and materials will that cost? I also would be leary of this location because of the flooding, no matter how "minor" it may be.
IMO, you may be ahead in the long run by using the other property and putting up a building. It's a safer bet and you'll be able to take the building with you if you ever had to leave.
Another option is to sell your house and buy one sitting on acreage!

Good points Ilya. Not really sure what to do. I haven't heard back from the guy yet either. Maybe his wife doesn't want the truck parked there? If I don't hear from him this week I'll take a ride over there.
Having second thoughts about putting up a building on the other property. The owner said he didn't want to pull permits. The only problem is that it sits on the back side of a horse ranch. Not sure if the city comes out to do inspections of the property annually (will have to check with him) If they do and see the new building then that brings many problems.

There was a car show after the parade and I had the truck there with a sign on it asking about storage. I got a few leads. One lady said she rents out warehouses to AACA members for $150 a month!! But they are 22ft long ...too short!! Damn!! With every day passing I am getting anxious!

I'm glad you were able to make the parade. There was a local car show here on Saturday. I managed to get a 3rd place award in the "Under Construction" class. Its was a decent show even the wind was terrible all danged day.

Bobby, I hope I find something soon! I looked at a warehouse yesterday. Its 10 minutes from the house. A 11' x31' for $315 a month. I really don't want to spend that much a month and the wife is already complaining about the potential costs. Congrats on your award! Someday it will be first place!!

Keith, you may have to bite the bullet and store the truck at the warehouse temporarily until you find a more suitable storage facility.

Joe, all the fire museums are full. I think there may be a car museum locally and will contact them. One of my co-workers suggested I contact the local Casino and see if they would be willing to store it somewhere in return for having on display a few days a month or other events. They are always have expensive cars on display so why not a cool fire truck. I may try and contact them.
I word on the book. My ad in our union newsletter went out last week. Out of 2300 people I received one request for the book. Pretty disappointing!! The press release is going out next week. I am trying to tweak it some. (Any suggestion would be appreciated) It will go out to 30K plus people. If I don't get the needed #'s the book wont happen. I am going to check into having it printed in a soft cover which will drop the price some. Still waiting for the magazine Enjine Enjine to come out which has the truck on the back cover of it.

(MIAMI, April 23, 2014) – Local author and career firefighter, Keith Seafield, will debut his second book “Chicago Fire Patrol #5: The Story and Restoration of My Grandfather’s Fire Truck” as a follow up to his first literary release “The History of the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol 1871-1959”. While completing research for his first book in 2007, Seafield had the opportunity to purchase his grandfather’s fire truck from the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago and has been working on restoring it since.
In “Chicago Fire Patrol #5: The Story and Restoration of My Grandfather’s Fire Truck,” the reader is taken through the fascinating story of the fire trucks 30-year fire service run and the emotional journey of his family’s history. Thirty- two years after his grandfather’s passing, and now a career firefighter himself, Seafield captures how it felt to be in his grandfather shoes through the research and restoration process.
In this excerpt from the book, Seafield helps the reader feel what it felt like to be in the driver’s seat of his grandfather’s fire truck for the first time:
“My heart was racing when I heard it start up and I climbed aboard. It’s hard to describe to someone the feelings I was experiencing: Looking out the same windshield my grandfather had looked out some fifty years ago and pulling the handle hanging off the dashboard, to activate the siren as he had done while responding to fires. I imagined him in the seat, his large fingers pointing the route that he wanted his driver to take to the fire. I could see him putting on his fire coat and helmet while formulating his plan of action.”

Keith, this will happen. That's a good spiel for the book. I wouldn't change a thing. Hang in there and wait for the positive results from the press release. 
The casino for storage is a great idea. They probably won't even charge you if they can display the truck occasionally.
And finally, a softbound book is fine with me. I'll buy two so I can gift one.

Thanks for the update on the book. I'd be ok with a softcover book as well. I'll bet you'll get some interest. People are probably procrastinators like I am, they might have to read the ad several times before the actually bit the bullet and make a book order.

Thanks Bobby! I really don't want a soft cover but we'll see what I can find out.
I received our community magazine last week and thought about putting an ad in it for the truck. It has a 40k + circulation and covers all the areas that would be a perfect location to store it. Its professionally done and is over 50 pages. Here is a link to it: DRW Magazine, The Weston Express, Davie & The Ranches, Weston, Davie, Southwest Ranches, Cooper City, West Broward, South Florida Publication
I called the owner this afternoon inquiring about an ad. I explained the situation and he said he would do it for free (usually $350) I sent some pics and info for the ad and offered a free ride for him and his family for doing me the favor. Here was his response:
Hi Keith,
I know your truck; I see it at the parades, and even climbed around it at the Davie Police & Fire Expo I think. My 3-year-old son would LOVE to ride it in someday... maybe you're doing a July 4th parade?
I'll include the details in the next (June) issue. Please let me know if you find a space before May 17th, as we discussed.
