My frustration finally got the best of me. I take my truck to local builders and they seem to take so long. Funny enough I pay in advance (guessing that's my problem) so people dont worry about money.
Well i finally had enough and took my truck to PJ's Classics here in Albuquerque. I've blown my budget big time but my goal is to drive this truck for my graduation. I'm about to hit 29 and graduate with my first degree and this is my present.
That's enough of my rant . Now i hope i can get some of my money back from the last guy!
Looking forward to putting up the pics of the truck RUNNING AGAIN the next time I see it. I've hired them to wire the truck, ensure the 429 and C6 are functional, align the front end, build the brake and fuel lines, install my 2013 Ford Explorer 2nd Row seat, and generally get my truck in a safe drivable condition.
Awesome. Good for you buddy. What degree are you going for?
I hope you can get some reimbursement from the slacker garage. That sucks they screwed you on budget and timeframe.
I have a few more weeks for my AA in Business and I'll be starting my BA in Business Admin right after. I should get some money back. My other builder at the first garage has done right by me as far as work and price so I'm willing to be flexible or understanding. I mean heck we're all human and he's a small business so you have to be aware of small business problems. We already discussed it and are going to have a sit down tonight to figure out what's fair for both of us. I'll keep the pics coming soon.
Your truck is looking good, all the best with it in the future.
I had a discussion with my mechanic about this subject of paying in advance, recently. He told me a number of horror stories he had come across about people who had paid in advance and got nothing for their money, even after years. One bloke even had his Mercedes stripped and everything was sold except the engine block and the car body, the only things that could be traced.
He said never to pay in advance as the mechanic, painter or whatever loses any interest in doing the job once he has the money. He said the thing that keeps them going is the thought of the payment when the job is done. Perhaps a small, partial payment when a milestone is reached might work alright, I don't know.
Hope things go better for your in the future and good luck with your studies.
I agree 100% with your assessment but I've built a rapport with my builder so I was comfortable to pay him in advance. Lesson learned stick to what you know works and keep it moving. I cant wait to drive this truck I'm anxious beyond belief.
From what I see in their yard, PJ's does nice work, mostly Chev AD's but very nice work. I realize you're busy with school but couldn't you do some of it yourself?
I plan to do some more of the interior and finish work myself after it runs / drives. After nearly 6 years I finally said to myself that I'd rather pay the money to make it drive than wait and see it sit. Also its going to be a prop in our wedding. Between school, a wedding soon, a new baby (hopefully), looking for a new house, starting a new business, looking for a new job, having a few rental houses, and my current full time job... well I think you get the picture.
P.s. If you sell me your house I would ABSOLUTELY love your garage and promise I'll get some work done myself!
Thank you. I'm very excited to get it on the road. It has definately been a learning experience and I'd like to start my next project soon after. I'm thinking a classic for my 8 year old son. If i start now hopefully it will be done by the time he's driving, HAHA!
Update. We're changing the transmission to an e40d. I figured since i need to cut that brand new drive shaft i might as well get the tranny i want and not cut it again.
I'm on the hunt for the best controller right now. Baumann seems to be the most common but I've seen others like painless and ATS. If this is going to be the deciding factor I'm thinking this might not be the best idea.
