Nope, it's cutting the bottom off the rocker (shortening the height, not the length) and then replacing it with some tubing. Gives more clearance for rocks, bets rid of a (usually) rusty piece of sheet metal and replaces it with something that can take it's knocks as a rock slider.
That would NARROW the rocker - 2 me - rather then shorten, but I'm not a recreational user. All new to this 33 yr owner who uses vehicle as wrker round here on the gradients, swamps, fields and woods.
"Pic worth 1,000 wrds."
glad U cont 2 tie into the frame/cage. Many do not.
Several have 'canted' the slider - lower on the frame inner side / higher on the door outer side - claiming it's a good angle for staying off the rock (true meaning of 'slider') once you've slo motion empaled urself on them…
Continues to B a well thought out, quality project! Thank you for allowing us to follow along!
My plan is to mod the rock rails like my front and rear bumpers to accept my 8k winch (on a slide in receiver set up) so I can winch from the side also.
I am trying to get the skid steer from the bro inlaw to flex/tire stuff test it this weekend.
New bumpers front and rear from a while back. I think 2x4?
I welded long tubes on both bumper backside and then these brackets were put into the inside the frame rails frame and bolted and welded all the way around.
Still a project. With the back half of the roll cage, the inner fenderwell tool boxes fit great and so does the 35" spare.
I saw a new front tube bumper. It has just bout the right diameter.
The old rear bumper looks like it's still on but of less interest in my inquiry about the tube diameter up front…
The '77 I cut up (10 yrs. ago?) to update my '70 had a huge (4 inch?) diameter tube. I created a hoist from it for the logs when skidin them up to the neighbor's. I held up some 1 inch tubes and they were too small. I'm thinking 1.5 - 2.5 inch will make a nice frnt bumper (has to avoid a sno plow, a winch and eventual 10 inch auger). Just not sure the size - yours looks like a size I could go out and get a of scrap to try.
Mini flex test with a rock in the field and a small creek crossing. Yes I am going to have to trim the front inner fenderwell for sure.
And this was a mild flex test, I am also sure some of the outer fender will have to come off in order to run these tires and get the most out of the flex.
sorry, 3 different vehicles:
* shiny red W/hard, home fabed flairs ( a below shot of rocker @ 1 point )
* red (w/ orig. white race stripe circa '76)
* ur own.
Bumper Q is about (someone else's)1 seen in several shots, 1 of which is @ top of #182.
