jensen

ND, i cannot believe this, this was your car, i bought the car sight unseen and my mate who has since died( ps his wife gave me the f250 and sent it to Auckland as a gift ) fetched it ,he lived in LA and travelled 500 miles to get it,he had 8 jensens,it does have the wood dash and i did buy it from the son who farther had died and it just sat in the garage,also he said it was from a lease company ,before that his dad friend had owned it,but that is as much as he knew,i hope you can fill in any bits of its history,do you have contact number for lease company,/receipts/photos.it has aftermaket air filter, a chrome one with magnum 440 decal, and alloy manifold also the cats had been removed from the exhaust,how did it drive when you owned it! i have not driven it yet,i only just got it running but it sounds superb,i have had it about three years,any information would be great,this model had the three fan cooling option and your right these didn't work otter switch was faulty one fan had been replaced with a Bosch version not Lucas,,this is quite a rare Jensen it has double bumpers/differant front grill/100amp alternator, and lots of other small differences,less than 10 convertibles,they also made another version called the coupe 75/76 only this had a special roof and was different to the standard fixed head big rear window Jensen, less than 50 in total production,i hope you may have something left of the car,book/keys/bills ,Barnie the authorities require you to have a third brake light here in NZ so this was fitted when it went through our nz compliance, i will let you know of all my improvements with the truck,are we agreed its a camper special deluxe and what about the ranger bit or is that up to debate,not that it matters to me i just want to keep this truck on the road for another 45 years but i will go down the road to convert the seat to buckets to make it a bit special if its a ranger ,just need to get the centre consul, ps what colour is palamino is that a beige colour like the horses,i do like its present colour so maybe will have them trimmed like the bench seats that fitted ,maybe until i have the car repainted in a few years,glad i posted a photo of both cars,thanks to you both for this great info,

Hi guys. I guess I just post my VIN, and our good friend Bill decodes it.
Here we go:
63 F100
VIN: F10JH341568
Color: T - I'm thinking it was teal, but who knows how many layers of paint there are.
WB: 11 (???)
Body: 81A, I'm guessing that's the swb, originally with the 57-60 bed
Trans: A
Axle: 12 - It has a nine inch, is that original?
Anything you can tell me about it will be greatly appreciated.

Same car...incredible!

You bought the Jensen from Bill Weage's son? I don't recall his first name, but the story I got from a mutual friend who had bought some other cars from Bill was...Bill had sold the car to a collector when he found out he was dying.

When I got it, the cats, the smog pump and EGR valve had been removed. When I went to register it...first...it had to pass a CA smog test. The guy at the smog station knew nothing about the car, had no info on it...and passed it without knowing it was supposed to have all the smog crap. Boy, did I luck out!

When Bill got the car from me (how he was able to register it in CA, I ain't sayin'), he had a shop in Reseda CA that supposedly knew Jensen's fix the fans, fix the fans, fix the fans and etc. After two years of this crap, it was determined the mechanic didn't know squat about squat. Bill was so PO'd, he just parked it after spending $$$$ trying to get the damn thing fixed. It sat in the garage in WLA for years afterwards.

But, Bill havin' something sitting around was nothing new, as he freely admitted, he was an accumulator. He had a former road race 1952 MG-TD w/a V8 60 flatty in it. It sat in the back yard for years, cuz the engine had locked up. He had a '49 Mercury woodie...it sat in the back yard for years because it was just a shell, termites had feasted on it for decades before Bill got it. Other stuff reposing in the back yard: 1971 Chrysler ragtop, 1965 Impala ragtop, 1955 Studebaker sedan, 1941 Studebaker Commander sedan. Bill would buy some old rolling pile of misery, drive it till it gave up the ghost, then buy something else, then the whole process would repeat itself.

Bill and I were pals for over 30 years and shared the house in WLA (West Los Angeles) from 1981 thru 1993 (I got hitched, so I moved on), so I know the Jensen just sat there. You're gonna need to do some wiring work, as rodents chewed on it.

Thomas Cadillac is no more. The property the building was located on in downtown LA (it was originally Don Lee Cadillac), was sold, the building was torn down...then the land sat fallow for years, as the developer went belly up.

Thomas later opened an Acura Dealership in Covina CA. The last time I was in the area (Covina is about 15 miles NE of me), they were still in business. I have no other info on the car, all the original stuff was passed to Bill when he bought it from me.

btw: If you run across a one-off LHD 1962 Bentley Continental Flying Spur originally built for royalty, I owned the car for decades and know its entire history.

Welcome to FTE

F10 = F100 2WD

J = 223 1V I-6.

H = Lorain OH Assembly Plant.

341568 = 1963, assembled October 1962.

WB 11 should read: W.B. 114 = 114" Wheelbase.

T = Sandshell Beige.

81A Standard Cab. There are no codes in the VIN or on the Warranty Plate to determine what "back of cab" equipment these trucks had.

A = Ford type 3.03 3 Speed Manual all Syncromesh Transmission.

12 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.89-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

Thru 1971, there is no way to determine if a truck had a Flareside or Styleside bed or was sold as a Cab & Chassis...originally.

With the 114" wheelbase, it could have been any one of these.

It's not the same car unless Bill Weage sold it to Joe Bermudez...who that is, I dunno. What is the date the CA title (known as the pink slip) was issued to Bermudez?

I sold it to Weage, who lived in West Los Angeles. Healdsburg is north of San Francisco, about 500 miles NW of LA.

The circumstances are very similar, son sells Jensen (that was leased originally) that dad (who had passed away) had owned for over 20 years that was rarely driven.

The smog stuff is missing, the fans are botched up. Knowing that Lucas is refered to as the Prince of Darkness, that doesn't surprise me. So, I dunno if it's the same car...or not.

title jensen

12/11/89 on title was last transfer,not used after that date 27,000miles, there where only 6 Aruba red convertibles made in total with possible tan trim / black or fawn etc so that makes Aruba red possible of only 1 or 2, see numbers,good info
http://www.richardcalver.com/article_convertible.htm
the chances of me getting in touch with you and you owning the same car i would say you got more chance of winning the lotto,weird! this is the second time this week that i have talked to a total stranger on the net about a totally differant car (aussie p76 force 7 one of only 6 made)that my friend in the uk had ,now to find it belongs to his neighbour, must be my year for strange events,

Not the same car if the title was transfered in 1989.

Thanks. Based on that, it looks like it's pretty original except for a 64 bed and two junkyard body panels. I appreciate it.

Welcome to FTE

Post the VIN and all the codes from the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

Either I or someone else will chime in with the info.

Today is my anniversary, so I'm takin' off early....my FTE anniversary that is.
