A measure of the strength of frame side rails determined by the cross section area and shape of the side rails. The higher the number, the more heavy duty it is. For more info seehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_modulus

Maybe the seller has the parts catalog.

Thanks for posting those pages, Bill!

Only after reviewing the "Frame Model Application Chart" for '65/'66 4X4 F100 did it hit me that the factory only offered one F100 4X4 wheel base in '65 (120") whereas in '66, they offered two F100 4X4 wheel base models, 115" and 129"....most interesting.

In my defense, I will say I haven't seen many OEM '65/'66 F100 4X4s "in the wild", of any wheel base.

'64 was the first year of the color keying interiors ( steering wheel and seat colors) on most 2WD pickups, its where the body codes get interesting. The 181 code does not come up very often. Don't have the code book, put my guess it is standard cab with black vinyl seat.

Bill,
I'm confused. Please help me (again).

According to the Frame Model Application Chart you posted (Section 50, page 10), I read it that both the '65/'66, F100, 4x2, 129"WB, used #C6TZ-5005-BL.
What did I miss? How did a '65 truck use a C6TZ- frame???

Part numbers get revised over time. Note the revision date Jan 1975 on chart. Why? still a mystery. I am sure a 1965 Parts book will show a C5 number. This also happens to front fenders. '61 fenders show a C2 part number. Truck frames were manufactured by Parish, a division of Dana Corp.

[QUOTE=NumberDummy;9308809]1960/65 FoMoCo engines were painted black..

And, it gets worse, because some truck valve covers were painted the same color as car valve covers, even though the engines were different sizes.

1965 F100/350 352 = Black engine, Gold valve covers.

1965 Passenger Car 289 2V = Black engine, Gold valve covers.

LOL. Yes then there is the 62/63 406 motors with black motors and gold valve covers.

Not sure about 390's but 62 and 63 406 3x2 motors had gold tbird covers. All original one owner 63 box top galaxie 406 in Mobile has gold covers. From everything I've seen my 62 406 should be gold instead of chrome?

F10 = F100 2WD

B = 262 1V I-6.

D = Dallas TX Assembly Plant.

445395 = 1964, assembled August 1963.

Noobie here with a decode request

Hi,

I recently bought a 1965 F100 from the original owner.

She's been in Alaska her whole life and I plan to bring it back as close to new as I can afford to do. I love looking at it but I got her to drive. So the restoration work will have to be done during our long dark winters.

Thought I would get you guys to tell me what you can about her. Far as I can tell, everything is original except the transmission. The owner said he had the 3 speed tree shift replaced with a 4 speed floor shift when the truck was only about a yr old. The 4 speed seems to perform nicely but I would like to get the column shift to put back in it....partly for the kick of shifting on the column but mostly so that when my wife and little boy ride with me, the person in the middle isnt having their knees cracked by the shifter. Any advice on the subject of transmission swapping would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway my VIN is: F10JK687585
Color: B
WB: 129
Body: L81
Trans: A
Axle: C2
DSO: 744159
