I see - yah, those would be a pain to remove. Mine are actually designed to be removed, which is kinda nice bu also makes for one scary load/unload - I plan on rectifying that tho with building my own setup that closely resembles the outriggers of a mobile crane... That's in the next few months tho, I don't really need the camper off till summertime when i start hooking up to trailers and stuff.
Another suggestion, this time based entirely on that last photo you posted - it looks like the camper cab-over area is really really close to the cab's roof, due to frame flex of the truck you want camper to be more like how it sits in that pic you posted earlier. If the earlier pic is the current setup, and the last pic is an older one, then disregard this comment entirely
LCAM - Yep that was taken the day I picked it up.. I didn't bring any lumber with me.. my bad! I have it sit on a 4x4 at the front and back and it's plenty high enough... Before this summer, I need to get the frame mounted torque lift tie downs.. The HappiJac brackets on the front of my box ain't cutting it. I have some broken welds on the front of my box so they just bend when I put some tension on the chains. The previous owner hauled a lot of firewood and it looks like he just tossed logs into the nose of the box, breaking it in a few spots. I'd LOVE a flatbed, but they don't work with campers too well.
OR you can throw a cc cab on your frame and put a short bed on.
I see great minds think alike - t'was my idea as well, and IIRC Ford did this in '96 and '97 from the factory with some F250s.

Oh, I forgot the lumber as well, thankfully the guy whom I got my camper from restores those things as a side job and had plenty of lumber laying around - height wasn't an issue in my case, but I did need a 4by4 across the front of the bed to space the camper from the front wall far enough to where it don't hit the tail lights out back. My COG is behind my rear axle, but the way the camper is build there ain't none I can do about it, short of moving my axle further back , which ain't happening with a pickup truck (vs. cab-chassis) frame and pickup bed. About the tie-downs, I was actually lucky enough that my truck had a TorkLift-like setup on it already when I bought it, well at least in the front (the rear tie downs utilize the bumper, which is a monstrosity by itself). You don't necessarily have to buy the actual TorkLift system tho, if you're good at fabrication or know someone who is you can make yourself something even sturdier - my setup is built out of 1/4"-wall square tubing and some BIG plates and gussets, this is what I plan on copying when I build my outrigger legs. As for the flat bed - those actually work awesome with campers, all you really need is some sort of bolt-down framework to keep the camper from sliding around. You get so much more usable storage space under the camper with a flat bed... Actually one of the best setups IMHO is a service body with a camper, you can still haul stuff in it but you also have tons of lockable and weather-proof storage space
removing front bench seat for some buckets and center console
needs a new block heater/plug (it's bad)
install a battery tender on my new 1000 CCA batteries
fix rear end leak at front pinion
new shocks
body work and new paint
maybe a small lift, 4" or so.. I like how it sits now, but i'd like 35"'s.. now have 33's. Probably re-gear the axles and a rear locker
This thing runs awesome.. doesn't have any rust whatsoever, as it came from California.. I bought it about 18 months ago, haul my camper with it, 4 wheelers and trips to the dump.
What color is ur interior? Im lookin for bench seat. I got the stock seats with arm rest and center consol

My interior is all Tan, bench seats, doors, dash etc... I'd trade ya, but shipping would be a B*tch! one down side of living in the great state of Alaska!
Last summer our trip we did 16,000km (11,000 miles) in 9 weeks with the 6.9 camper, and just over 4000$ just in diesel! About 200$ on gas for the generator, and I haven't calculated everything else yet....
